I would have given Dorsett $6 million and the "C".

Next year, Dorsett with the C, Prust and Horvat with A's

To be honest (and more serious than what's above), I don't mind any of the signings deals etc. I don't care two poops what anyone on the team makes unless it impacts their ability to perform versus the salary cap. And right now, I don't think they should be spending to the cap, but they are, so good on the guy writing the cheques to at least appear like he's trying to win a championship. All of these awful contracts will be over by the time this team is ready to start challenging in the playoffs again. Maybe there will be new awful contracts, but who knows, certainly not Knucker.

Looking forward to WD starting a goon line against Calgary next year.

Yes...yes he does, even to the point of blogging on my HB to inform the masses how bad the prospects and management team are.

I used to enjoy his thoughts and posts, but he's really lowered himself to the level of sensnucksnocups, bordering the surreyoiler kid...all because Sbisa got 500,000 to much, oh and Lack is better than Miller who should never have been signed

- Makita

You know, they couldnt have even signed Sbisa for 500k less. He got a 300k raise from the min they had to offer iirc.

All this yak about him being over paid from nucker is quite funny. I said it from the beginning... it's sign him or dump him. The contract is barely more than he had to be qualified for. The amount of tears over it is a mystery to me. He keeps bringing up Gillis. It seems like he's happy with decade long contracts and full NTC's but will jump ship over 300K. Doesnt add up does it? No, because he's obviously still loyal to the old regime. When they fired the last of the old management days ago,,,, he flipped his lid again.... it's seems pretty obvious that he has old loyalties still.

Bank on it, Dorsett, Prust and Burrows to start the game. Burrows won't even wear his gloves to take the opening face-off.

Nucker is in the "dump him" camp. According to the fancy stats guy Sbisa is a "replacement level" defender, which means you could reach into a bag of mystery guys and pull one out who could perform just as well as Sbisa can, for $3 million less. And maybe that's true, but who cares, the team wouldn't be any better with a different replacement level defender.

I saw Beyond the Lighted Stage, and I liked it. That filmmaker, Sam Dunn, is terrific. I love his metal documentaries.

But I've never warmed to Rush. One of the problems for me is that all their complex rhythms don't make for very danceable songs. My DJ self has never been able to lean on them very reliably, even at classic rock shows.

I met up recently with an old friend from broadcasting school, who was advocating for Rush back in the 80s when I was into bands like Simple Minds and The Police and early U2. His boys have certainly held their own through all these years.

- Carol Schram

They are the Nickelback of the 80's.

You lve them or hate them. Their is no in between.

Although I like to consider RUSH much more talented than the Richardless moron from my native city

Miller - Not bad...better than Lack or Markstrom
Sbisa - 1/2 mil to much
Dorsett - most determination on the taem
Tanev - good
Weber - good
Corrado - see how that works out
Bartkowski - meh
I'll take professional hockey people over any HB poster or Vancouver sports writer...including 1040 any day all day

- Makita

As much as I hate the miller signing I can admit he's better than Lack or Markstrom. But it's the Sbiza and Dorsett signings that suck.

Sbiza
Three-year deal worth $10.8m ($2.9m due in a qualifying offer as a RFA)
Drags down the possession numbers of every defenceman he’s paired with
Is the 6th worst D in the entire NHL. He is the worst D on a playoff team.
Advance stats show that he isn’t even good enough to play on a team’s bottom pairing
Is 25 and has played over 300 NHL games

Dorsett
Four years at $2.65m
Is the fifth-highest paid forward on the Canucks roster
Was the Canucks’ worst forward by possession metrics this past season
He has the worst corsi percentage among Canucks’ forwards
He’s been a drag on the possession of everyone he plays with

I thought everyone loved Dorsett. And then he got paid.

But I know, it's like some crazy religious cult here. Greet your fellow parishioners and repeat after me:

Sbisa sucks
Benning can't negotiate

Now return to your seats

So my point being... how does JB's negotiating skills chase a fan away over the $300k raise? Sad right?

It's just him pouncing on the new GM over the little things. It wasnt safe to freak out when Gillis was fired because he would be a man alone. This is how he vents. We're still smothered in MG's contracts but they are all good because they were not $300k over priced?

It's pure comedy.

You guys should've kept Lack and got rid of that bum Markstrom. He can't even play in the NHL. Good in the AHL but pure crap when he get's to the show.

A prospect who will never play in the NHL for Nilsson, and a low 2nd, mid 3rd, and 7th round picks for Talbot. I'm quite happy with how we made out

The funniest part is the players are on holiday having fun traveling, boating at the cottage or driving their trucks into Timmy's and they're people here complaining about how much Sbisa is being paid.

There were those (can't remember who and am too lazy to look up) who were complaining that Benning was poorly managing the asset that was Weber in the days leading up to free agency because he wasn't qualified. Then Weber signs and there is silence, except about how much Dorsett is getting paid. Who cares if he's the fifth highest paid forward. Part of that was his role in helping the team actually have a fourth line. Possession stat all you like, but observation showed he was a big part of that. The other reason he is paid more than most is because he just signed. There is salary inflation every year.

Completely agree, Dorsett had a big part in Horvat's development this year.

I guess the message to new young the players is... want to get paid... dont play like pussies....

I don't know why it pains you so much to over pay these guys though. You go on and on about blowing it up and tanking but also want them to use the money spent on under achievers on better players.... if you want to tank... embrace the poopty players that are here on SHORT contracts. Tanev is a good player on a good deal and he signed for 5 years. Why do people ignore that JB can negotiate when it comes to better players? The Vrbada deal was good as well. Best forward addition in years for good money and term. Nope keep focusing on a #6 D paid less than 500k over his qualifier and a 4rth line checker....

I wonder how often Sbisa was on the ice during Dorsett's shifts? Can't remember but I bet a lot.

I have no problem with the Dorsett signing and contract. He's one of the players that brings it night in and night out. Frankly, I was quite surprised that Columbus decided to part ways with him; however, it's their loss. He's been a good addition to the Canucks, and a bit of a mentor with respect to the younger guys. Great work ethic and truculence galore. Characteristics which I love -he's also not too bad in terms of providing a bit of offense.

But yes, don't start me on Sbisa. The whole handling and signing was a gongshow and probably Benning's biggest make to date. Hopefully at least there will be some improvement from him this year, given he's now accustomed more to the systems and coaching aspects. Dare to dream, yes

I guess I'm more like Vintage in that I don't worry about what the players are paid (How about Gillis bringing in Sundin at $20mil...WTF was that all about...haven't seen anything even remotely close by JB) as long as they do there job and perform the way their coach requires. If they don't then off to the press box and bring in the replacement.

As for the fancy stats that prove your point, there must be some intangibles that JB, TL and WD know about or value over the stats to make them dress either player.

And with stats there are always anomalies that can skew the stats...Calgary winning so many games when the stats say they shouldn't of.
