His salary and cap hit are the same. He signed 4 year 10 million deal worth paid 2.5 per year.

Ok so obviously theres no reason his contract is unpalatable. So the rumor is a fake. Why do people spread this crap?

... because there's always enough gullible people to jump on it and provide the rumor monger with the attention he desires.

i don't get why (management or fan or player) would be surprised/shocked/angry/upset at management doing their job.

management (of any team) should be open to discussing any trade etc. doesn't mean that a deal gets consummated or even gets beyond tire kicking.

i don't get why fans/people get upset about talks/negotiations. i'm sure that lots of names get brought up in lots of trade discussions. doesn't mean that a deal is/was close. doesn't mean that a team doesn't value said player.

i'm surprised that TL would address it rather than put out the generic "we explore any transaction that will improve our team but don't want to comment on rumours b/c in this city, rumours are always flying around."

Doesn't anyone want to talk about the Lack trade?

Shameful part of canuck history that should be buried deep, deep in the back yard right alongside Booner's ex-girlfriends.

in terms of PR "fires," i agree with you that i'm surprised he even addressed it.

but to say "don't know where these rumours started," seems pretty weak. weak considering that the person who started this rumour provided his name and said he was told by linden himself in a private conversation after the town hall. unlike most rumours, we actually know where this one started.

at the end of the day, i think it's a really small issue. addressing it just seems to be an overreaction to me. they should be exploring trades/roster moves for almost every player. to find out that they actually are exploring moves/trades/signings shouldn't be a surprise to anyone (fan or player).

Looking forward to Botch's response. He helped fuel these flames.

Or maybe he's telling the truth and it's Linden who's backpeddling?

He just put out what was out there in the twittersphere. Such is the world these days: be big enough on social media and your opinion matters.

Regardless whether he was shopped or not, he's still here... For now.

We can debate whether they attempted to trade him last February but it matters as much as debating when Bieksa was actually asked to waive.

If he had no value last February, it doesn't mean he will have no value next trade deadline (and vice versa). Markets are not stagnant.

Probably not. Higgins contract is very tradable. These reporters have nothing to report lately, making up crap becomes their job.

True, but how the player responds (plays this coming season) will set his value. A good coach can make a player look better than they are by putting them in favourable situations... or a savvy GM can sometimes inflate a player's value.

I just hope JB doesn't hold on to aging assets too long.

Why are you blaming Botchford? In this instance, he is reporting what was supposedly told to a season ticket holder.

We are on a hockey rumour site so this is the stuff that we eat up. Botch is just recognising and feeding that hunger for canucks' news.

And before you bring up the whole, "well, botch is a journalist and they should have a higher standard blah blah blah," that boat sailed long ago.

I agree with those sentiments.

This whole issue seems typical of what's going on with the canucks' these days: tiny events being seen as cataclysmic.

With respect to Higgins, hopefully, they play him on the bottom 6 rather than setting him up to fail as a second liner.

As an aside, Higgins seems like a pro who can deal with these types of rumours. Doesn't strike me as a guy who would sulk.
