Shaw's a player whom i think will get good money from the hawks depending on how much the cap goes up. Fan favorite, hard worker, willing to go the dirty areas, those arn't so easily replaced. - SaskHawkFan
I love the player, but just believe guys like him lose tread faster, and are cheaper to find, than guys like Saad, as an example. Meaning, guys with high end skill, and some ceiling to grow even more.
Hoping he comes back, and I'm curious as to what he'll seek. If I were him, I'm trying to get some security in that next contract.
Just looked it up, didn't realize he was making 2M. Not so poor after all.
JJ what about Zawaski's latest intimation that a deal with Montrael brings back a solid D man and that Oduta might not be in the works for the Hawks? Hate to see that happen. I like Oduya and he's been being patient and turning down deals (reportedly a 3 year with Buffalo). - Marlowe
Solid d-man.
So that means salary coming back.
Jay also says Bickell is basically unmovable (not dissimilar to what I've been hearing).
Whether it's Ehrhoff and Solid D-Man X and Kruger, or Oduya and all of the above, I think Stanley would have to move another big salary(?)

I highly doubt that big salary would be any of AA(just extended), Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabs, Hammer, Hossa.....who else does that leave....
A goon wrote a great peice on how fast your money gets eaten up on the Players Tribune... maybe it was Paul Bissonette? And yes Im aware Oduya has made much more money than a 4th line goon, but still higher pay means more agent fees, taxes and escrow payments....

if he has anywhere close to that banked, he either owes the government a lot of money or he had a fantastic financial adviser during the crisis. - flyershockey
Most 401Ks are up 30% over the last few years, not out of reality that he could've made millions over the last 5years or so.
Totally forgot about this hit. But man oh man I remember it now. Kid was so excited to be on the ice he would've hit anything that was moving. Couldn't even stay on his feet at the tail end of the shift hahaha
I'm not saying he doesn't have a nice chunk of change saved but saying he has 15-20 M saved off of 23M total is quite liberal. Between agent fee's, taxes and escrow I'm sure a sizable amount has been eating up in just that. As well as "living the life", being an NHL player probably isn't cheap as you are "keeping up with the Jones' " as far as cars, houses, trips ect.... Sure, but it's also fair to assume Oduya has banked millions. To think he only has $4-5 million left after $22 million over the last ten years or so—and that's just team salary, forgetting endorsements and appearances (which Paul Bissonette probably only did for car dealers at best)— is probably off.
Oh yeah, and then there's investment income.
Johnny Oduya is likely a wealthy man by the standard used by 99.9% of the world, and 99% of the US.

realistically, how much would you estimate oduya has made in endorsements and appearance fees?
Overrated if someone rated him as a #1/2 dman...which nobody has done for several years. He is a very solid #4/5 at this stage in his career and could excel on the Hawks against lesser competition. In his prime days in Vancouver he was a #2 on most NHL teams.
Let's just run with Ehrhoff being overrated...he'd be the 5th defensemen under contract for likely 1 year at a minimum salary- 'overrated' sounds OK to me...

He was in Canada at the time, the financial crisis may not have impacted him as severely.

He could also own a business/businesses like most athletes do, which generate another avenue of income when their playing days are over, regardless, dudes set unless he makes foolish investments or blows it all away w/Stoll & Richards

Paul Bissonette has an ownership stake in a clothing line that makes him more money than hockey ever did.
