Defense or no defense (I lean toward the underrated defensively camp), when you score at least 20% of your team's goals every year, you should be able to use 15% of your team's cap.

That seems to make logical sense, but still tough to swallow considering the number of roster spots to fill.

Payroll can get top heavy in a hurry...

...which isn't good for any club.

Max Pacioretty out at least 12 weeks with a knee injury.

Did one of you guys hire Tonya Harding to put the Habs in the position of needing another forward?

Patrick Kane is far from the dumpster fire he used to be in the neutral and D zones, but lets not kid ourselves...

Kane is absolutely one dimensional

but, its much harder to find a guy to produce that sort of offense, then it is to find a 4th line grinder who can take on some of the defensive responsibilities. as has been discussed, hes not a liability defensively either.

He was....but not anymore.

Although he still has his moments.

I wouldn't say he is a 200 foot player.
- stljam

He has evolved into one. Will he ever be a great defensive player? No, he won't. He is better than most think. As long as he put the effort in, and he does for the most part, I am fine with his play on that side of the puck.

He at least understand where to be.

because he agrees with you. im still waiting for some proof or evidence of the 15-25 mil in endorsements, appearances and investments estimation.

Why do you care about Johnny O's personal wealth? Isn't the point of this post the fact that he is willing to take a hometown discount which is cap friendly? As a Hawks fan, I would think that would excite you unlike Saad that clearly wanted to get paid and forced his trade out of town. Johnny O has done well in his career and apparently feels he has enough money to take a little less to stay with a team he playing on rather than jump on the highest contract in free agency.

on a spectrum of players, patrick kane would be more of a one dimensional player than stamkos. i think that is the point.
- flyershockey

I agree, but Kane's 200 ft game has improved by leaps and bounds over his career. He even lays the body every now and then.

But you have a reason now that the Hawks are participating, can write it off, etc.

I likely will PM you this weekend if we are going to make the trip. I'd appreciate sharing any recommendations/thoughts.

seems like EnzoD is on his own island with labeling stamkos as a one dimensional player.

Yep. He'll never be in the Selke discussion, but he at least tries. He's not absent in his own zone like Ovi is.

Now you need to show me where I said $15-25 million in endorsements, appearances and investments. Actually, don't bother. We both (all) know I didn't. And it's not about Oduya either.

But, for the last time, what I said was, like 5 times(?), $15-25 million in salary over the course of his career, (which someone else put at $22 million?, sounds about right) PLUS endorsements, appearances and investments PLUS tax sheltering=wealthy man.

Agree completely...

...it's an unfortunate byproduct of the hard cap era. When clubs find guys like Stamkos, they must be paid, but the payday may force clubs to sign cheaper, more marginal players to complete the roster.

The Hawks have been dealing with this, and now it'll be more difficult with the new T&K deals.

Achieving success is hard, but maintaining success is arguably much more difficult.

Sugar Beach Hotel used to be a really nice place, relatively cheap, on the bay, there's a sister property right next to it that is just like it (forget the name). Used to take the kids up there when they were little. Miniature golf across the street. Nice beach.

Actually, I don't agree with what he said, but thanks for trying to tell me what I think. I do think chasing this all day long is childish and stupid, though.

And with that, have a great weekend.
