Are you sure about that? Does the CBA have that written in it's language? I thought players had to give a list of 10 teams, and based on those teams trades can be made. Now, if Fla is not one of the 10 teams, then he has a right to veto. If Fla was on the list, and he has "extra" demands, then shame on him. I hope Rocky takes action against him.

Sharp or his family may have specific reasons they do not want to live there. He has a good friend (Campbell) that went through the move. Also think Campbell's family still lives here so maybe he didn't give him a solid impression of FL? The contract allows him to control his fate and decide where he wants to live and raise his kids..

I believe the CBA provides the protection automatically after a certain age. I don't see a need for the Hawks to get into it with him unless he is manipulating it deliberately to make things more difficult. If we learn he has refused to waive on several teams then it would be a problem.

UGh.

It's a contract. Sharp probably took less money or less years to get that in there. I'm 99.99% sure he has a full NMC. Not sure who is on list, but the guy has earned and negotiated that right. If you want to be angry, that's fine. Look at the Hawks who have handed these out like trick or treats on Halloween. Bickell has one. Crawford has one. The question you should be asking is, who doesn't have one?

No, Rocky won't take action. Sharp has 2 years left on his deal. He probably wanted to know what direction this club was going etc. He's moving his family cross country. Not easy with little kids.

Sharp was a loyal soldier for many years. The hawks are trying to accommodate his wishes as they best they can.

He most certainly did. Sharp earned his NTC, but these "terms and conditions" go well beyond that limited NTC, IMO.
- EnzoD

There is absolutely no proof that he has added onerous conditions to his willingness to waive.

And doesn't it seem logical that in return for waiving something that is contractually ironclad, a player would ask for some assurances or clarifications?

I don't blame Sharp in this, I blame Stan for agreeing to it, and far too often.

If I'm Sharp, I'm not doing anyone any favors. I'm going where I want to go.

- howiehandles

No blame anywhere. It was a business decision that was equal at the time and is now slanted in the player's favour.

Word on the Sharp deal is that terms between the Cats and Hawks were agreed on but a player condition to waive NTC yet to be approved by FLA

This is exactly what JJ wrote in the blog. Is David's source on his Tweet JJ?

NTCs and NMCs are just a cost of business these days. If Stan doesn't give Sharp a NTC clause for his last contract then we walks and we lose out and we possibly miss out on two more cups.

Most teams' top guys have NTCs or NMCs. LA may be the exception, but if they want to re-sign Kopitar and/or Lucic they will have to give them some type of NMC. LA has overpaid some of the top guys (Brown, Gaborik) who's contracts are untradeable even without a NTC.

The @FlaPanthers were very close to striking a deal with the @NHLBlackhawks last night for Patrick Sharp. May pick back up today. Stay tuned

Unless you are hearing something else?

Who would Florida give up in return? ..... Picks or prospects would be the most obvious choice... don't think they want to move a roster player. Return won't be as good as Chicago would like but at this point the move needs to be done. Leafs got a decent (not great) return for Phil so the Hawks should kinda get the same for Sharp.. othing to be thrilled over but some good assets in return at the least!

And the Hawks made a terrible assumption that the salary cap was going to be about$75~$80 million dollars this year. If it were$80 we wouldn't have to trade anyone okay maybe one player.

I am basing that off of JJ's report this morning. There is no real "proof" that any potential deal for Sharp was on the table last night. Just going off what JJ said this morning. Again, and Please for the love of God hear me people. I KNOW THAT SHARP IS ENTITLED TO DO THIS! I just wholeheartedly disagree with his approach(IF JJ's report is accurate) given the circumstances for both sides.

If I'm understanding this correctly, FLA has to have one of their own rostered players approve said-trade because he has a NTC.

The Panthers with NTC's are:

Bolland - Nope.
Jokinen - Double-nope.
Campbell - Way too expensive - nope.
Mitchell - Possibly, but hefty hit for a 38-year-old. Nope.
Bobby Lu - Hmmm ....

Hopefully they do the right thing.. I agree Sharp has been very good to Chicago for a long time... would be nice if Chicago treats him well.... now-a-days employers and employees don't have a ton of loyalty in all forms of businesses so it's nice to see when it happens!

The Hawks difficulty in moving him or what they get in return for him are not Sharp's concerns. Sharp wants to go to a team that meet his criteria. Are you suggesting it's Sharp's responsibility to accomodate the Blackhawks and accept a trade where he doesn't want to play? If so, I'd love to have business dealings with you, I'd take everything you have so you can make me happy.
- paulr

I am not saying it is his responsiblity. I am saying that if I was Patrick Sharp (wow wouldnt that be awesome?!?), I would want this saga to be over as quickly as possible. And vetoing trades to a supposed "great landing spot for ex-Hawks" is not how this drama ends quickly...

Sharp's agent will handling this on behalf of his client. His concern isn't determined by Stanbo's timeline.

What about Soupy if Tallon is willing to eat 30 to 50% of that cap hit? That could make sense.

Think it was more of a projection than assumption. The only big contracts they've handed out in the past two years are the Kane/Toews extensions. Can't fault Stan for extending the wonder twins. Hard to predict a weak Canadian dollar.

I like the sound of Lu. He's said before that the UC is a place he would like to play at. But I think he's more of a small market guy. Playing under a microscope of a major city/team is not his thing anymore, and the Chicago media and fanbase is starting to become a pretty big microscope.

My guess, FLA ownership are the ones balking. Tallon wants Sharp badly is pulling a "Spy Game" move. Leak the info to a press member you trust to put pressure on the bosses to do what you want.
