Yeah, a lot of poop "may" happen. Kane "may" become available someday. Pure nonsense.
- JRoenick97

Seabrook leaving has been discussed here a lot. No one wants it but it depends on his salary expectations, cap etc.. If they cannot extend him at a reasonable number they need to trade him for a return. I believe that same Edmonton blogger was putting out something earlier in the year about Seabs, if traded, would want $8m plus as a UFA. Obviously, the Hawks need him closer to where Boychuck signed. Saad said after game 7 of the WCF he would stay here at a discount. Seabs has given the same message. The question is what is the discount. Saad may still believe he signed at a discount in SBJ if an OS was coming for $6.5. Toews and Kane probably are discounts to what Stamkos will sign for or what they would have gotten in the open market. It's all relative.

If Seabs doesn't agree to an extension they can't let him walk for no return.

what would you have said about saad rumors?
- flyershockey

Also, if you read that article, it's some Oilers radio host specualating that Seabrook may come available sometime because we couldn't get Saad locked down. No source or anything, just a guy speculating. He may even mean next year.

I'd have seen Saad having more possibility of moving or at least getting offer sheeted because he was RFA. Seabs is not that. Also, Saad is way more replaceable that Seabs is.

If Stan hasn't cleared the space by the convention he will need a Josh Earnest type to take questions.
- tredbrta

Actually, I'll be interested in who attends the Hawks Convention.

If I recall Leddy did not make an appearance despite being on the roster, and sure enough he was gone just before the next season started.

Will Sharp make an appearance if he still hasn't been moved? Hawks fans in general luv the guy...

You mean in KHL? I have a friend who is goalie for a KHL team and he said that there are few really rich and good teams but after that lots of teams in financial troubles. That crisis in Ukraine is making negative impact too. But the hole culture there is really weard one. Owners don't have any patient there and so on. Hole different world there.
- MjulQvist

Yes but if a $2million dollar per season NHL player went to Moscow to play he would get $115 million rubles per season. Unless of course they didn't pay him, which is probably why Kostitsyn would like to come back.

Well, 2 weeks ago nobody even had a rumor Saad would be leaving, but if you gave me the option of Saad or Seabs, I'd have said Saad leaves before Seabrook.

I highly doubt they are going to do that with 1 full season left. Maybe at the deadline...

He also has a NTC.

The rumour about Seabrook is indeed a possibility, probably the faintest possibility for Bowman and the Hawks, but possible nonetheless. As I said last week, Bowman has asked Oduya and Kruger to be patient and wait on the announcement of their deals so that he can create the space. And I also mentioned that to make it all happen Bowman may have to package up another "sexy" name like Saad.

And before many here begin to freak out about the possible loss of Seabrook, just like with Saad, Bowman will get a great deal back in return...and you can be sure of greater youth, cost certainty and real talent. If Seabrook goes, he won't go alone, one or more of the "usual suspects" will be added to create a blockbuster package.

Now, this does not mean that this will happen, but the longer it takes to move someone else, the odds of its likelihood continue to rise! What I can share with you is this, the possible returns on moving Crawford have been surprisingly "average" from the Hawk's perspective...translation...even more thinking "outside of the box" is necessary by Bowman! In other words, the longer this takes to play out, the greater likelihood of ANOTHER BLOCKBUSTER DEAL from Bowman!

Oh...so someone in EDMONTON wrote an article that Seabrook is on his way there?Actually as soon as the Cup was won, the Chicago PRESS told YOU that Sharp & others would be trade AT THE DRAFT, so you can believe all the speculaton in that has replaced fact in our lives and start lamenting the loss of Seabrook b/c the hawks want to start the year with a big two instead of a big 3 plus JonO...if you think any of the turds playing on the back line replace Seabs and we have a shot...you have bought into stupidity..

I wish people would take a look at the situation based upon some facts.

The Hawks have the following players on some from of NTC/NMC:

NTC

Bickell (limited), Seabrook (limited)

NMC

Crawford (full), Kane (full), Toews (full), Keith (full), Sharp (limited), Hammer (limited)

1. None of these guys can be put on waivers
2. Everyone makes $4MM plus
3. Everyone can, and will only waive for what is in their individual best interests

If they can't move a guy who has to give a list of teams, how the frank much easier will it be to move someone on a full NMC???

The stumbling block here seems to be the desire for return and/or the insistence of dance partners to send turd contracts back.

This is EXACTLY what I've been thinking.

I think Bowman would be the first to admit he doesn't want another Leddy 2.0 situation where he has to settle for a return. I'm sure there have been plenty of "reasonable" offers, but the 'Hawks just don't want "reasonable", they want to be confident with their return.

As such, I think Bowman might be looking at this from a perspective of, "well, I know that the longer I wait on Sharp/Versteeg/Bickell/etc., my returns will be diminished, however, if I find a way to make a BLOCKBUSTER out of this, then my return(s) might actually tip the scale in our favor."

Really looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. Maybe it makes feasible sense just get a feel of what the demand for Seabrook is like and what a potential package might cost. I'm not insinuating that he needs to be dealt, but gauging interest might be something they are doing right now.

May as well look at deals from all angles. Truth be told, NO ONE knows what's really going on in those closed door meetings. Just speculation.

As far as I'm concerned, anything is possible at this point (except for 19, 88, and 2 being moved).

This was partially my point also. The rumor is started by some Oilers radio host. That's it. I can say that guys might not sign somewhere too and that it would be great for the Hawks to scoop them up. Doesn't mean it's happening.

Losing Seabrook, whatever the return, makes the team field a considerably worse D core next season. That almost assuredly means not being in competition for the cup again. Is he willing to do that?
