Good luck to the Panthers and their fans this season.

What is also happening is that all teams are aware of the Hawks situation. They are slow playing this to get the deal / player they want. As the newnus of the cup gets longer the price drops. Someone mentioned earlier they can't believe that someone hasn't picked up Versteeg at 2.2 mil. Sorry but he isn't worth that.

Panthers are a team I really enjoy watching. I was a huge Beezer fan as a kid. I've liked them ever since.

Keep doing what you are doing. Nevermind the nay sayers and qualification statements. You are better than that. YOu have your core of us who get what you do and respect you for it.

Take it from me, it is a huge waste of energy to responding to haters etc...

Wow. That's crazy. Haha. I'm assuming everything worked out OK, hopefully. There's a great documentary that someone on Youtube that chronicles the Panthers first season. It's an old NHL VHS that they uploaded. It was great to see that old footage...90's hockey is my favorite era.

I'd be willing to bet - and this is just pure speculation - that the requirement Sharp has is that Florida commits to him long term, after his current contract is up.

Something like "I'm not moving my family 2x in 3 years. If I'm coming there, I need in writing that you'll re-sign me and I can finish my career in Florida"

Just a hunch, no proof or rumors to back it up

I believe he's still good for 15G 40pts over the course of a season
Perhaps SB is asking a high price for him as well

Agreed. Unfortunately not much I'd be interested in at the NHL level but it seems like they have a truckload of very good D prospects.
- daaaahawks

The nhl dmen we have are good players, we just don't have any "wow" type dudes, and none of them are by any means, a #1 dman. They're all 2nd and 3rd pairing dmen. Mdz was really good for us last year and he improved his defensive game. Luke schenn is a good young stay at home defender, he takes a lot of poop, but it's cuz he plays the tough minutes against tough opposition. Nick Schultz looked to regain some confidence last year. Still has some decent mobility and defends well. Streit would be a 1st pairing offensive dman on a lot of nhl teams despite his age. The only dman on the flyers I'd truly stay away from is Andrew macdonald (huge contract, not very mobile, not offensive, not defensive...), and yevgeni Medvedev (only cuz he's 32 and just making his way over to the u.s./ I don't know anything about the guy)

We're stacked as far as defensive prospects go. SOme big name prospects, and then some under the radar ones that could prove to be great nhl players.

Not sure we would need a player like Eller or Desharnais. I suppose for bottom six they wouldn't be horrible.
- Panthers88

Now i know Desharnais isnt a prototypical centre and is small and doesnt win the board battles but he still would have been the second highest scorer on the Panthers last year.

As much as everyone says he has no value he's consistently around the 50-60 pt mark and that does have some value somewhere at 3.5mil a season.

Sharp? 25/35 with good, i.e. top line mates.

Sooooo just over 2 months from training camp, or somewhere thereabouts, at what point does a straight up salary dump become unreasonable?

And that would not at all disappoint me. Moving salary is really the maximum in terms of return. The pieces that come back are rather inconsequential at this point.

I still contend the most likely landing spot for Patrick Sharp is Brooklyn. It makes sense as a complete package. A young and upcoming team, much like the Hawks in 2008-09, a new stadium, he can live on the island with his family, tons of press/marketing deals to be had..........that to me at this point is most plausible baring another move by Pittsburgh, or Washington to clear money. I can't see him going to Boston.

I also don't see how this team right now even entertains trading Corey Crawford. You lost Nillsson (spell) and raanta since the offseason began. You resigned Michael Leighton, and if history is correct Michael Leighton will play in at least a few Hawks games this year. The depth in goal right now in this organization is weak at best after you take away 50/33.

Versteeg is coming off another tweak of a knee injury. That's 2 in 3 years. Probably scaring teams away AND again........at 2.2 cap hit he's a valuable asset to have as he's interchangeable up and down the lineup.

I still contend Bowman is hell bent on NOT taking back salary or retaining salary in moving Bickell and that market is probably slim to none.

The guy who may be most coveted by another team is Andrew Shaw,......assuming his medical rap sheet doesn't show 15 concussions on it.

Bowman has a LOT of balls up in the air. He has 2 marque pieces to his team next year sitting in limbo and you have to wonder how long a guy like Oduya is going to wait especially if other teams start pulling offers off the table.

Tick.........tock.............

Beezer was notorious for not ever signing autographs. You might not believe it but it is very true. One day we were at a practice and back then there was just a metal guard rail separating the fans and players; wasn't even a guard or any other type of security personnel. Guy has his kids with him who have Beezer stuff to get signed (this was after practice was over). So he starts going "hey John will you sign? Come sign for the kids, please!!" Beezer just went to his car. So the guy then shouted some.. not so nice.. things. My uncle was just standing there because there were other players walking out and we had other things to get signed, and Beezer FLIES around the barricade, tire screeching, stops his car and says "it's a**holes like you that make us never wanna sign!" Missed my uncle by about 3 inches.

Honest to God true story.

Agreed. At this point he has to dump salary........if he dumps Sharp and is able to resign Oduya that's a win for the organization.

It's time Stan comes off his high horse....sounds like his market for all his trade chips is shrinking by the day.

What if Sharp, Bickell, Versteeg, Crawford can't/aren't dealt. Is there anyone else on the roster that could? Are there any surprises left?

Not exactly, but something like that, he wanted an assurance about how he would be handled based on how the Panthers performed in the future. I'll leave it at that.
- John Jaeckel

If the Panthers are not on his list, I have no issues with this, whatever his demands are. I'm definitely on the side of management in the sports world (they own the teams and have all the risk) but in this case, if I'm Sharp and you want me, my attitude would be "Here's what I'd like to have if you want me". At that point, if I'm management, I say "Yes" or "No" and move on.

The disaster option is to move Seabrook.

They negotiated a No Movement Clause, not a "request an extension or request a future trade if the panthers aren't good" Clause....just saying. If JJ's reported demands are valid, very disapointing as a Sharp Fan. Not to mention cripling to StanBo's negotiating position....

Pretty sure they have a good idea what the market is or isn't at this point.

Which is why its a little confusing why nothings done.

I gotta believe though, if there's a deal out there , even for 7th rd picks, and he is up against a deadline with Oduya and Kruger, he would make the deal.

Though I wonder if in the end, what's going to happen is he's going to trade Sharp for nothing, resign Kruger and let Oduya walk because he can't trade Bickell or Versteeg.
