Cause the organization supported him and kept the wolves at bay one year ago when he was up to his ass in alligators?

I wonder how Sharp's lawsuit against sports mockery and 670 is going. Never mind, I know the answer just with a quick search. It was never filed and odds are it never will be.

The team supported one of their long time faces of the franchise, so now he should just relent to being cast away?

As has been stated, he owes this team nothing except to abide by the terms of his contract. He's doing just that. I begrudge him nothing.

- Dunconn_Smythe

This is not about him or what the organization thinks of him. Its about a hard cap that the organization has to abide by.

Exactly. And these NMC/NTC in sports are part of the overall negotiation process. He's lucky he's toward the end of his career. If he's hell bent on actually using the thing and seriously vetoed not one (happens) but two deals good luck on getting another one. Everyone talking about the league being buddy buddy will be happy to screw the hawks (maybe) once, but it won't bite them in 2017.

This!

NTC/NMC means Sharp controls the cards… Question 1 is to ask if he would expand the list for teams X,Y, and Z…

- DMChi2010

This is true and although frustrating, would he ask the same to waive for teams X,Y and Z if he didn't expand his list. With his contributions and leadership over the years, I guess he is given a pass, even with the Hawks in this present pickle. Now imagine deals in place for the last couple weeks and Bickell refusing to go to X,Y and Z. Highly unlikely anyone's interested anyway but man, how would that go over.

Is he going to Vermont or Boston U? Hockey's Future says Vermont but he switched to Boston U in April. I mean, either one is pretty good at the end of the day....
- MNHawk

I thought Vermont but u could be right and both very good.

Don't know if Sharp has vetoed any of the potential trades but someone should tell him that falling out of favor with the Wirtz family is a bad idea especially if he looking to do anything after his playing days are over

The captain may have to have a talk with him about doing what is best for the team

- molly2522

Couldn't Sharp look the captain right in the eyes and say if he wasn't so greedy, the team wouldn't be in this spot?

And if some team wants Sharp - and can convince him to uproot his family, have his wife and daughters start again in a new city, maybe for only one or two years - the prior vetoes won't mean a thing to any of the 3 parties.

I don't doubt for a minute that Stan is really trying, but from what I've gathered - whatever the sticking point is with Florida could have been discovered much sooner with a little forethought instead of the 11th hour a week into free agency and the time spent negotiating with Florida in a losing case could have been better spent elsewhere.

Such as some dialogue like this that could have taken place before the draft:

Stan: Hey Sharpie, we may try to trade you to Florida, would you waive your NTC for that?

Sharp: Yes I would waive to go to Florida providing I get "X".

Stan: Hi Dale, would you be interested in a trade for Sharp?

Dale: Sure, depending on the details.

Stan: Sharp will waive his NTC but he requires "X", is that acceptable?

Dale: I'll get back to you after getting ownership approval.

Dale: Hi Stan, I checked with ownership and they will not approve "X" so I guess there's no point in further discussion regarding Sharp.

Stan: Thanks Dale. I'm glad we got this figured out before the draft so I'm not sitting there on July 7th with most of the potential trading partners already having moved on from trade discussions for Sharp.

Ya think it would have been that difficult to do something like that?

- EbonyRaptor

☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️this is what Stan should have know before the draft as he should have know the teams on sharps list that he would go to.If Florida wasn't on his list and he told Stan he would go but had changed his mind. Then sharpie is a Richard. If he told Stan no to Florida from the start and Stan tried to change his mind shame on stan. If sharpie screw Stan Bo over I would sent him to the worst place on his list.

Or do what a lot of pro athletes do. Rent a place during the season and come home when you can and in the off season. Bring the family to you on weekends when you playing at home and when school is on vacation. Lots of Pro Athletes do this so why can't Sharp? I think Soupy had as strong of a NTC or maybe stronger. He saw the writing on the wall. He said ok to a trade to Florida. Then a bad Florida team. At least this one has some promise.

The sooner the player in any sport realizes he is a piece of meat the better. If his contract protects him partially from things he may not want to do, better for him. This isn't the Eddie Shore era. I don't think Sharp is playing hardball, he is looking after his own interests first. If it takes some time, so be it. He couldn't care less if its holding up Kruger and Oduya's new contracts or who or what may be traded back to the Hawks. He"ll be outta here sooner than later.

Exactly. The Hawks shouldn't bite the hand that's been feeding them since the dark days.

Sharp doesn't have to answer to Toews or any other player regarding his contact. If the Hawks don't like the consequences of giving out NTCs, this is a lesson for the future. Don't give them out.

They give them as an incentive to the player. They can't expect that they will just give it up because the team wants them to, because it is in the teams best interest. A team that wants you gone. Here, let me do you a huge favor as you kick me out the door........ Says nobody.

He's not uprooting anything. Here's a tip, go move where you want to be in 4 years, let your kids and wife stay there, be with them the only time of the year you are with them anyway, and prepare for retirement.

JJ..

It was mentioned that Stan had another offer (Islanders?) and that there was drop dead date on that deal?!... Any thoughts on that now that the Florida deal is dead, maybe, on, off....

- z1990z

Think Florida is dead. Not sure about other offer. Heard it was there, might still be there, clock may be ticking down.

I'm with you - he's an athlete and making buku bucks. Understand that trades are part of the deal.
I am still unsure if he is stepping over the line with his veto power. I understand the NTC and NMC, but after he submits the list of teams, how much authority does a player really have? I my eyes, he is slowly losing my respect.

Ok. I wasn't saying Toews and Kane didn't deserve their contracts. I was just pointing out that other players getting involved in this wouldn't be the best idea for all concern. Every player knows their time is limited and its a business. If you have a contract to determine where you go and whom you play for, every player in the league would most likely encourage any other player to exercise that right.

He is losing your respect for using something bargained and given to him by the Hawks?

I'm a Stan fan and a Hawk's brass believer. They've earned that trust w three Cups. I've also railed on this site about the difference between our kibitzing on a blog and real life GM stuff and how little we understand about the real life GM.

But all that said as a precursor, I'm kinda shocked that we're sitting here today on July 7 and have both Bickell and Sharp still on the roster. Just feels like he's boxing himself in somewhat. Both have to be moved. Solve one, then being patient on the other...fine. But still sitting on both (plus Steeg)? Puzzling at least.

Someone cue up the "painting himself into a corner" picture. That made me giggle the other day.
