Don't know if Sharp has vetoed any of the potential trades but someone should tell him that falling out of favor with the Wirtz family is a bad idea especially if he looking to do anything after his playing days are over

The captain may have to have a talk with him about doing what is best for the team

The Coughlin thing is completely excusable. Kids big and plays hard, could use more of that.

The Anisimov thing feels like he was gilding the lily a bit, and yes taking his eye off the ball unnecessarily for a day or so, but who knows.

I know nothing about him other than what I've read...same with Nilsson really but it sounds like you liked the trade?

I was told the "late play" may come from a team that makes a flurry of smaller cap reduction moves.

Interesting.... Flyers/MTL/Isles possible, but thinks he'll fit well in OTT

At this point, any type of deal makes it work....

We discussed Caughlin last night..In my view pretty impressive he got a ride to Vermont so who knows...

Anisimov resigning is part of the price Bowman had to pay to get value back for Saad...Anyone bothered by his $$ should remember Bowman said he has tried to trade for him in the past and also there was no choice but to trade Saad it was only a question of where. In my view the Hawks have some holes to fill to keep the engine running and draft picks would not have been as good as the package they got from the Jackets.

As far as Sharp...There are not many teams that can afford him so we will see....And there are less yet when we eliminate those that can afford to take on his salary but are cities Sharp doesn't want to okay. Something has to give sooner than later...

Is he going to Vermont or Boston U? Hockey's Future says Vermont but he switched to Boston U in April. I mean, either one is pretty good at the end of the day....

I think Bowman is really trying. The Florida thing, IF YOU CHOOSE to believe it, I think is informative.

- John Jaeckel

I don't doubt for a minute that Stan is really trying, but from what I've gathered - whatever the sticking point is with Florida could have been discovered much sooner with a little forethought instead of the 11th hour a week into free agency and the time spent negotiating with Florida in a losing case could have been better spent elsewhere.

Such as some dialogue like this that could have taken place before the draft:

Stan: Hey Sharpie, we may try to trade you to Florida, would you waive your NTC for that?

Sharp: Yes I would waive to go to Florida providing I get "X".

Stan: Hi Dale, would you be interested in a trade for Sharp?

Dale: Sure, depending on the details.

Stan: Sharp will waive his NTC but he requires "X", is that acceptable?

Dale: I'll get back to you after getting ownership approval.

Dale: Hi Stan, I checked with ownership and they will not approve "X" so I guess there's no point in further discussion regarding Sharp.

Stan: Thanks Dale. I'm glad we got this figured out before the draft so I'm not sitting there on July 7th with most of the potential trading partners already having moved on from trade discussions for Sharp.

Ya think it would have been that difficult to do something like that?

If Tim Murray was smart he would make a play for Sharp. The fans in Buffalo are thirsting bad for a winner and there are far worse places to play. The team is going to be on the uptick with Eichel and best of all they have an owner who will spend whatever it takes. The rink is sold out every night with fans coming from both sides of the border. It is a far better experience there than watching a game in Toronto.

Why would he care what's best for the team that's trying to send him to hockey purgatory?

I know I wouldn't.

This!

NTC/NMC means Sharp controls the cards… Question 1 is to ask if he would expand the list for teams X,Y, and Z…

Probably this. I seem to think the entire front office making millions upon millions of dollars with countless Hockey professionals, including Scotty Bowman whose name is on the cup about 72 times already, know how to count up to 71.4 million. Im sure they new this was coming for over a year now and are doing their due diligence in order to get the cap under control Im sure they know Sharps hit is 5.9 and he seems to be like the ideal guy to move. Im also sure every other GM knows this. Im also sure Sharps list of teams is most likely top end playoff teams who also don't have much cap space to sign him. This causes the team the necessity first to find a deal then to try to convince Sharp to add the team that offered the deal to his list.

Heres the thing one way or the other the Hawks will be cap compliant at the start of the season and we all will be able to watch Hawk Hockey.

Sharp would be elected mayor of Fort Erie, Ontario within weeks of arriving.

And to have Buffalo knock the Canadiens and Leafs out of a playoff spot would make for a lot of happy people.

Or maybe you're just wrong and have been saying the same things since the trade deadline?
- biegs

Not sure who you were directing at Biegs, but I for one thought Stan made a couple of great moves at the trade deadline in acquiring Desi and Vermette. Both stellar moves and have stated so repeatedly on this blog. At the same time he also crapped the bed acquiring KT. Or how bout the Runblad resigning?

I also thought he made a real nice move with the Saad situation and got some real value back and yes again I've stated this several times on here.

Again my point which I made in jest to ER was there are a few on this board that defend Bowman to almost a fanatical measure. And while Stan has done a good job no one is perfect (see Marty Turco amongst others) and other views ideas should allowed to be discussed.

I think we're all hopeful Stan is going to be able to move some pieces here soon and continue to reshape the team moving forward...

If I have this right Sharp has nixed two potential trades by not waiving his NTC, which is his prerogative. Time to fold em and play the cards that were actually dealt and deal him to a team that's actually on his list.

JJ..

It was mentioned that Stan had another offer (Islanders?) and that there was drop dead date on that deal?!... Any thoughts on that now that the Florida deal is dead, maybe, on, off....

The team supported one of their long time faces of the franchise, so now he should just relent to being cast away?

As has been stated, he owes this team nothing except to abide by the terms of his contract. He's doing just that. I begrudge him nothing.
