Wouldn't "transplants" still be loyal to the team they grew up supporting, or supported all their lives?

If that's the case, then as a "transplant" they are not invested in the local team. And if the local team is a consistent loser, why spend the dollars to go see them?

The Marlins are run by a crook. The Panthers suffer from a few things; poor arena location being one of them. But the new owner means business. Dolphins have the richest owner in the league. But we've had a stupid GM up until now.
- Panthers88

I go to Hollywood for a week in March every year. First year we went my wife and I thought we would go to a Panther's game on a late Sunday afternoon. I naturally assumed the rink was sort of downtown Miami. When I found out where Sunrise was I was shocked and then understood the reason for attendance issues.

The biggest problem is when we were in Miami, that arena was always full. It was moved 60 miles out West; much harder for people to get to especially on a week night when they work. It definitely doesn't help that our last two ownership groups, prior to the current regime, have been complete dunces.
- Panthers88

Sounds like a similar problem that's happening with the Coyotes and Glendale.

Sharp + McNeil for Grimaldi, Petrovic and a 2nd
- ZenlarTheRed

I would do this. Petrovic is out-developing Gudbranson. He's a fantastic young blue liner.

I thought Jason Pierre Paul only plays football
- LetsGoIsles

Garth drafted him. A little Aloe Vera and he will be ready for prospects camp. 2 sport dynamo. Untouchable prospect. Up there with Pullock and Mayfield as the next Denis Potvins in the systems. That is until the next group of Potvins are ready.

Stop adding years to Sharp's age (33). You know I'm an Isles fan. He makes your team better. Probably would have led you past the caps. He could fetch a pick at this point from FL and it would be fine. Essentially, Sharp goes for a pick, Oduya and Krueger. The Hawks are contending again and the Isles... have a lot of prospects.
- tredbrta

Cuz, we think a like bc that's what I think also, but the slight issue for the isles obtaining that total cap hit, would be a salary being moved bc isles still need room for Nelson + season.....

What prospect u think the isles would trade?
- keep in mind CHI needs cap space
- Sharp is 34yrs old
- isles are NOT 1 player away from cup

Its not making a bold move, its not making a mistake.....

- Ur Not Me

The most valuable thing to the Hawks right now is cap space.

I believe they got their pieces back in the Saad trade already.

Unless Bowman plans on completely revamping his roster, I just don't see how the hawks are taking back $$$ for Sharp or Bickell or versteeg or Shaw.

I don't know which one they'd trade.

Sharp is 33 years old.

Then maybe these two teams can move on since there is no fit and you Islanders fans can go back to talking about your farm system

I promise you Sharp WILL deliver a prospect and a pick + the needed cap relief. So it doesn't happen with NY, so be it.

Right. It's crazy; but Broward land is cheaper and there's rumors of a casino being built on the grounds which will raise attendance. Getting there is pretty easy for people like me in Boca... but from Miami it's just hell.

Just a note: Not sure if this has already been discussed... the Oilers signed Anders Nilsson for 1yr/$1m right after the trade form the 'Hawks. Saw that on the TSN free agency tracker - then read it on Lighthouse Hockey.

Yeah, he did not want to play in the NHL. Oilers gave him a one way NHL contract which the Hawks would not have given him.

its not necessarily that the kids are "more important"; its more that the bhawks have their backs up against the wall and "need" to trade sharp...if the market dictates that its a buyers market, you shouldnt really be anticipating getting back equal value in return, especially if there are only a handful of teams that are financially able to take on his cap hit...

this shouldnt be hard to understand regardless of the team that someone roots for.

- LetsGoIsles

No one here expects equal value. That would be hard to find. 3 cups with the "A".

Too many intangibles to define value anyway. Even defining value by his current point production in the regular season - I have hardly seen a post here expecting a 40 point player back.

i think its the same argument as most big, coastal cities. there are so many other things to do, especially outdoor activities, that going inside for 3 hours isnt going to be high on your priority list unless the team is really good. san diego is a prime example also.

Totally agree bc Sharp's $5.9m cap could be used to sign Oduya + Kruger

It's really unfortunate. I work in Boca Raton (40 miles North of Miami). I get out at 5-5:30 PM. I live 5 miles from my house and it still takes me 30-45 minutes to get home. A friend of mine who works here lives in Cooper City (outside Miami). She can leave at 5 PM and get home at 7:30. So imagine trying to make a Panther game from Miami when you have to go 60+ miles on THREE different highways. No way.

Trading a good prospect to get Patrick Sharp isn't going to "destroy" anything. Melodrama much?

This is why you won't win a Stanley Cup. This mentality.

The Hawks traded a 1 and a good prospect for a rental player. I guess the Hawks did destroy something, everyone else's chances to win a Cup.

If you want to win the Cup, these are the things the Bruins, Kings and Blackhawks have taught us:

-You must be bold. Go for the big fish if you can
-You must spend money for great players. It's no coincidence the Kings, Hawks and Bs are all the ones most often living in Cap hell...nice tradeoff to win the Cup
-You must be willing to part with ballyhooed/unproven prospects to give immediate improvement to team's chances. NO ONE here is complaining about losing Klas Dahlbech or a first round pick....would we love them back? You damn right, but we'll take the results anyway.

- kwolf68

Great post. At some point GMs start to cash in prospects to gain quality on their roster. Yzerman and Murray recently have - paid off for both of them. Garth will too. He knows what he is doing.

Correct and if they sign Oduya and Kruger they can lessen that blow publicly in regards to what they got back from NYI or Florida, if the hawks care what goofs like us think, and they don't.

Plus I am really beginning to think that because of Bickell's horrid play, bad knees, and crap contract, that Bowman may very well have to deal Shaw and Versteeg instead and not take back money to get compliant and sign who he wants to.

That's how bad IMO the market for Bickell truly is. Hawks can't take back money. Not unless it's a sub 2 million dollar AAV and Rocky is willing to eat 925K while the guy frolics around in Rockford for the year.

That's the thing, most of the isles farm was either traded or has graduated. There is only a few left that will be on team within 2yrs to probably replace players on the outs. So in all honesty, until this years draft, isles had to add to the prospect pool.
