Buyouts are over aren't they? Thought the window ended June 30th
- Isles_since_6

Does anyone have the definitive word on this? Didn't Al post that the June 30th deadline for buyouts was false.

On behalf of the Detroit Red Wings I will have to pass on Sharp for DeKeyser.

Would you be interested in Brendan Smith, Jonathan Ericsson, Kyle Quincey or Jakub Kindl?

Wings could include a 2nd round draft pick and mid-level prospect offensive or defensive prospect.

How about a bag of pucks, that would be fine with me

I'm mostly curious about this because if Richards fights his termination and wins and the kings can't buy him out I'm going to enjoy watching what happens there.

The Hawks have filled their smurf quota.
- TTtime

That's a good point - Pulkkinen is rather on the small side and since we already have a number of "not big" guys, we don't want to be Montreal from a couple years ago. But - dynamite player and will probably have a nice career.

Wouldn't it make more sense to move some US franchises to cities with a long history of fans of hockey? Like Seattle or Portland? If the CDN dollar falls anymore, moving more teams to Canada would be worse for HRR. Not that there wouldn't be much larger issues for our Canadian brothers to worry about.
- TTtime

I believe the 7 Canadian teams account for 35% of HRR
While the other 23 make up the rest
A team placed in Quebec or another in ontario will surpass Seattle or Portland

Logical moves of phx and fla would bolster the league very quickly

My source said Sharp to mtl. will be official as soon as tonight.

A small salary is coming back.

No I believe this is true but it reopens a week or two before the season starts, I think you have to qualify the players or something, Sharps no movement clause may mean they can't waive him not very clear of this, hopefully something happens here soon

I doubt the Hawks would have to buyout Sharp, but Bickell on the other hand ... I read somewhere that if the Hawks would buyout Bickell, it would cost $1.5M in 2015/16 and 2016/17 and $1M for the following two seasons. I don't know if that is correct, but if it is and they can do this buyout either now of before the season starts, then they have $2.5M in cap relief there.

True, but if Stan has to take back salary in either of the Sharp/Bickell trades, then he probably has to trade all three or else have to trade Crawford or Shaw or ??? (please please please not even consider moving Seabrook ... oh please please please)

To me, the objective if to go into 2015/16 with Oduya, Kruger and Crawford and have a very good chance to repeat, AND to be able to afford to re-sign Seabrook next year. It matter very little to me to essentially give Sharp, Bickell and Versteeg away for peanuts to achieve that objective.

But then it's harder to sell a television deal to a major network here in the US. It's been discussed a few times before on here and the common thought is neither one of those two teams will move due to TV set saturation/markets.

If he fails a a physical (bad knees) in regards to a trade, then LTIR or some type of medical release I would think.

I'm quite sure Seattle would be a great place for new TV audiences.

That's understandable
I've seen the TV market demos - I believe both are in the top 15

You understand from a Canadian standpoint it kills us knowing those cities have teams when we could put 2 more teams in the Toronto area and each of those buildings would be packed each night

Oh I agree with Quebec City getting a team for sure. And if New York can support two franchises, I don't see how Toronto wouldn't be a home run for the league too (other than conference re-alignment again).

The key here is that a sold-out professional stadium gets around 20,000 sets of eyes on advertisements, but a television broadcast in a metro area of 3.25 million (Phoenix) can potentially reach more than 20,000 people. For advertisers, it's all about potential reach.

I thought Al did mention this but I just found this...on Hockey's Cap.com.

https://www.hockeyscap.com/buyout_faq

Buyout Period
The buyout period begins the later of June 15 or 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends. It concludes on June 30 at 5 pm EST

How much will Seabrooks new cap hit be?
8-9M?

- MTL1

The Hawks will give him some term to bring down the annual hit. He'll be 31 at the start of next season. My best guess is 7 years, 36.75 million = 5.25 million per. Or maybe 6 years, 35.25 million = 5.875 per.

If $3.5 has to come back - meaning cap relief of only $2.4 for Sharp - how do Oduya and Kruger get done without moving Crawford?
- StLBravesFan

Absolutely right Sage, we would still be over the cap, no way it gets done without moving Crawford

I'm imagining how screwed the kings will be if both voynov and richards suddenly count on their cap late summer. SURPRISE!
