It's honestly been amazing to watch. I'm down in San Diego and have witnessed these programs grow. I play at several of the rinks and was a referee for a couple of years. I mean it's a possibility to grow up in San Diego and actually have a chance to play easy coast college hockey, look no further than Thatcher Demko and Tyler Moy. Now we have an AHL team and more ice rinks being built.

I saw somewhere (might have been here, so not sure of its validity) that California has more youth hockey participants than all of Canada. If that's true, it's only a matter of time. World domination is just around the corner

The California teams growth can be attributed to their youth hockey programs growing. Each team has put a LOT of money into the youth hockey program and are now being rewarded for it. It also doesn't hurt that the SoCal area has won three SC's since 2007.

Why waste cap space on goalies. Stanbo probably has Q convinced he can win by playing 6 attackers for the entire game. NHL approves too - will be more scoring. Goaltenders are being phased out.
