God forbid a guy like Stamkos takes 10 million a year instead of 12 million a year to stay with the team that drafted him and help them build a deeper, better team. Seriously, when you make that much, a 2 million difference is nothing.

The problem here isn't that teams are willing to pay a guy as much as they do, the problem is greedy (frank)s wanting that fraction of a bit more. If these players are actually worried about job security, then one of them needs to set a precedent and take a discount and speak out about it, explaining to the media why they chose to do it.

And I don't want to hear poop like "Oh if you knew someone else was making more than you doing the same thing but you were better you wouldn't like making less than you think you are worth" or any other bull-poop response about how no one is going to do that because blah blah...

I just think these people are greedy (frank)s. And you mean to tell me NOT EVEN ONE of these players will take SLIGHTLY less money to help his team out? I could see if a guy is making league minimum and wants a few hundred thousand more for financial security, as we all know a 1 million dollar salary in the NHL isn't a 1 million dollar salary (in all actuality, it ends up being maybe a quarter of that) but a guy making 10 million a year isn't going to miss that "extra" 2 million after taxes from the league and government. It isn't going to lift them up to the highest echelon of culture and social status and it isn't going to prevent them from doing what they want to do in the off-season or buying what they want to buy.

FFS.

I just read a story about a homeless guy who found an envelope of money (about 2500) and TURNED IT IN TO THE POLICE. Then when people found out, they started a crowdfund to raise him some money to get an apartment and some new clothes and get on his feet. It raised 5000 dollars for him. When they found him and tried to give him the money, he replied with a letter stating that he wanted the money donated to local food kitchens and pantry's (basically to city missions) and that ALL HE REALLY WANTED WAS A JOB.

This society is (frank)ed.

Business ethics is an oxymoron. Plus, who doesn't want to make more money. We look at these star athletes and say to ourselves how (frank)ing greedy they are while we're sitting here making average joe salaries doing average joe jobs. You want to think the rich ones are giving back to their local community in the form of donations and programs for kids in need. Not all of them do and some of them are forced into it by their respective teams.

But at the end of the day, everyone wants to make more money, not less. And if you're not willing to pay up, someone else will.

Capitalism, baby.

I read that story as well. Gives you faith in humanity that some people are just solid. Every so often the chive has a section on Faith in Humanity.. it's always a feel-good read.

Funny how people say it's a good deal for the Blues but then complain the Sabres are destroying the NHL.
- SABRES 89

I'd have to say that in my 7+ years on this site the Sabres are one of the most hated teams here. Trolls sure get their panties in a bunch over everything Buffalo does.

Ugh, not a shot at you, but especially when referring to "rich" people, I hate these kind of statements.

Capitalism...Really though, these guys want to get their name on the cup and don't want another lockout but then take the money and run? Capitalism. Ugh.

I'd happily take 30,000 a year to play hockey. Average joe jobs? We all know that when you are born into ANY kind of money, you immediately are subjected to a better life, with better opportunity.

This society values social status over actual talent.

At least sports like Basketball and American Footbal and Futbol are actually made up of people who came from predominantly poor backgrounds.

IDK. I just think these statements "Who wouldn't want to make more money" or "everyone wants to make more money, not less" are completely wrong. Not everyone is a consumer whore.

As long as you stay out of Garth's cesspool, it's usually pretty safe in here, at least within the past year or two. But you're right, we're one of the biggest fan bases on here, of course we're going to be attacked. There's only a few awful people on this site, and for the most part they stay in the Garth blogs.

Tell me how ya feel, Dynamo! Nice post on Garth's thread btw.. I had a real lol.

I totally see where you're coming from, and you bring up a lot of points I'd prefer not to get into. But you'd be hard pressed to find someone that's not willing to make more money. Rich or poor.

Seems fair, Blues will need some space and we need a Dman and to move out a Forward.

Do we have a 2nd next year? I thought we have 3 3rd rd picks. If Foligno has any value we could sell them on our highest 3rd and Foligno.

edit- no 2nd, but 3 3rd rd picks.

The Blues are up against the cap so it's certainly possible. I'm sure Murray has a few vet D men in mind.

Haha, I can't stand that cptmjj dude.

Yeah I hear ya but when you are a professional athlete, you have a social and economical responsibility to set a standard that unfortunately, almost none of them choose to set. People look up to you and you are corrupting children from a very young age if you are just a money grubbing a-hole. It is a vicious cycle and I'm not complaining about how much they make per se, just that they refuse to take slightly less (again, the difference between 10 million being taxed and 12 million being taxed is almost negligible maybe even only several thousand dollars difference) in order to set precedent and help their organization long term. I mean come on, these businesses are willing to pay them millions of dollars to play a sport, to PLAY. A. SPORT. And they want THAT MUCH MORE?

It's just sickening.

I mean, there is that CEO in Seattle who cut his salary by like, millions of dollars to give his employees 80,000 a year minimum wage. And he's like, not even 40? These people are out there.

either way if we could do a 2nd and Marcus for Jay-Bo, I think you do that all day long but would St. Louis take it? They have to consider their cap situation but...Idk if that gets it done.

Call Minny about their younger Dmen. They need caproom in the next year badly, and their guys will be far better than JBo.
