murray did say that Legwand had to be included in the deal as cap relief from the sens. He might get waived after training camp. That could solve one roster spot.
- seedy

True. You could see him end up in Rochester if he gets waived. That would create a 4th line of DesLauriers-Larsson-Foligno. Don't forget about Schaller too.

Larsson/Foligno?
- Sabresfan-365

Wild have lotsa young talent on the blue line and need cap help and forwards.

I gotta think Foligno or Larsson would be trade bait.
- mhp

I like what Larssons showed at the end of last year. But in the grand scheme of things, neither of those two are probably that important.
I want to see Foligno have one healthy year with some talented linemates. But if i dont, i wont lose any sleep over it.

Foligno has value but Murray mentioned he likes him and his style of play, things can change.
- SABRES 89

What is your feeling? Are they definitely making a trade, or is it just a possibility?

As of now it's possible, Murray is in no rush but if you look at it we have to many forwards as of now.

Be nice to get Scandella but they signed him to a long term deal, doubtful he gets moved.

Too many forwards and not enough D. Has the makings of a trade by camp to me.

We need another D. We have a lot of forwards. No good D on FA that want to come to buffalo. Murray likes trading. All add up in the equation that murray will pull something off. Most likely a LW going out.

The Devils could be a trade partner. Something like Foligno for Gelinas?

A nice problem to have but I think you are right. While it would be great to off-load McCormick and/or Legwand to somebody, in order to trade for a top 4 D, it's likely going to cost us somebody young and good.

My take from camp today. (Yea it's been a long time since I have posted)

Top of the Class:
Eichel: as advertised, nuff said. Not gonna beat a dead horse.

Reinhart: Improved greatly from last year. Very confident out there. Stronger and faster with the same vision and smarts we drafted him 2nd overall for. Can easily make the team this year.

Needs more seasoning but could make the team:
McCabe: Looked and played the part as the vet D man in these kind of camps. Helped run drills as Reinhart was doing. Will make Tim Murray's job hard on decisions on the blue line.

Baptiste: Big Improvement as well. Great shot this kid has. Dark horse to make the team.

Best of the rest:
Bailey: Improved from last camp in all aspects. Starting to grow into his frame more and refine his raw talent. One year in Roch will have him competing for a job here in Buffalo.

Fasching: I like his heavy game. skating has improved. Will be a leader back in school this fall.

Florentino: Smooth skater with crisp passing.

Rodrigues: He and Eichel fed of each other into comfort zones. Could see him competing next year for a job.

Guhle: I like his size and athleticism, but he definitely needs to grow. 3 years from now he could be veeeerrryy good.

Chukarov: could be a steal for where we got him. his shot and passing were nice. His defensive game I didnt get a chance to see much of.

Goalies:
Johansson: Best goalie out there. His size does help but his positioning was on point. Looked very confident in net.

Kasdorf: Played very well. His positioning was also good.

What about all these scouts and staff Pegula's been throwing money at. Isn't there anybody over seas that we can bring in to help our defense for a season? With the KHL crashing cap wise you'd figure there would be a least a few decent UFA's that be willing to jump the pond for a fist full of cash.

How can you tell all this? I listened to WGR and Hamilton said they really didnt do much today. He said he saw a lot of nice crisp passing but not much else because they didnt actually play. How can you tell all that from drills?

Lambert did compare Eichel's skating to Coffey and Yzerman

Even if Murray didn't dislike Russians (and it sure sounds like he does), there are very few KHL defensemen who are good enough (and young enough to be a long term option) to make that jump. There's also that whole transfer agreement bit as well.

Zaitsev was a popular name and the sabres showed interest but i think he's committed to staying over there for at least one more year.

Yeah, here's what I think. While it's unlikely any of us has a clue about what's inside Darcy's head, and things like the salary cap, NTCs/NMCs, and the declining economy's impact on future revenues make it nearly impossible to trade anyone of any significance, it's not inconceivable that the Sabres could make a mid-season move.

Vanek, Roy, Miller, Pommer are probably not on the block since they represent the young core of this team and are all locked up long-term. We all know Vanek's contract is insane, but given the length and amount of the others, it seems unlikely to me there's a better deal out there. Remember Larry Quinn is a numbers guy, and 5 mil 6 years from now will be looking pretty good. Roy's deal is an especially favorable one for the club. You might even be able to throw Goose into this category b/c his value to the Sabres is high given his hustle and toughness.

Max, Kotalik, and Connolly are popular choices for a change of venue, but their UFA status would mean they'd need to go to a contender for the receiving team to be willing to assume the risk. That said, what's the likelihood of a contender sending the Sabres something worthy of a blockbuster? That's not even taking into account Max sucking for the last 2 years, Kotalik getting a reputation of being lazy, and (Tin) Connolly being more fragile than the leg lamp in A Christmas Story. This, coming from the guy who actually owns a Connolly jersey.

As far as young talent at forward goes, Stafford, MacArthur, Paille are the only roster players in that category. They're all tradable, but not enough to bring in an impact player. To me, the Sabres would need to include one of Mancari, Gerbe, or Kennedy to get another team interested. Possible, though Gerbe seems like he's got a future here.

Lastly, if they're really trying to fix the recent injury problem at defense, they're not going to trade any defensemen. Even still, it's more likely they'll do what they did last year and bring in a veteran like Nolan Pratt to temporarily fill the gap until Weber and Sekera are healthy again (a few weeks?). I haven't looked to see who like that is available, but they found someone last year and could probably do it again.

We Sabres fans have gotten used to the fact that Darcy rarely makes any moves. In fact, who really does anymore? I'd love to be wrong, but not at the expense of 26 / 9 / 30 / 29. You can have Peters. Twice.

Friday night pulls in a minimum of 8,000. Wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to a sold out hockey game.
- Buffalo--Sabres

Wasn't there over 8,000 last year? I'd think there's much more excitement this year.
