Not really... Why would Vancouver trade Matthias when they were in the midst of a playoff push? - smkuchta
Playoff push? They need to be tearing apart...not pushing for 8th.
Have you guys not learned from the Leafs |

Shawn Matthias... net 20... OK. Admittedly I loved the guy when he was here. But I don't see him scoring 20 unless you stick him next to Kess... oh crap. Well, that won't work. - Panthers88
damn we were hoping for 20, that would be 1/3 of the team's goals this year!

20 Goals
Matthias had 3 empty netters last year. |

Remember when Jason Blake scored 40 for the Islanders? Know who was the third-leading scorer on that team? Mike (frank)ing Sillinger, with 26 goals.
Not sure if Satan and Kozlov were banking them in off Sill's ass, but point is, someone has to score occasionally. Might as well be Matthias. - TheHoser
Never thought I'd ever hear or read the name Mike Sillinger again! Oh the painful memories. |

Why would Vancouver continue to try pushing for the playoffs when it's clear the window is closed? |

Santorelli was injured and didn't play after mid January that year.... kind of hard to trade him... Next? - smkuchta
Why not keep these guys then? Next... |

If only Vancouver's management was smart enough to get something out of those guys before they went to UFA. - Schenn-Sational!
That is because they were in a playoff race, something the Leafs aren't familiar with. |

Not sure he is even worth a 3rd..... I guess if he lights it up with a bunch of increased min. |

I am also wondering how this will impact other GM's willingness to trade for any of these short term projects from the Leafs come deadline.
If the GM's look at what Winnik, Santorelli, Franson and Raymond actually did after leaving the Leafs...it isn't great...so why would the do it again? The number of suitors the Leafs get will not be the same as last year. |

Good signing for the Leafs...Maybe 2 rounder and mid prospect at the deadline? Good move...GoLeafsgo! - jimboscore1
You are WAY overvaluing a bottom 6 player with size yet no grit. |

Everyone always overpays at the deadline.
The only person who doesn't realize this is our stupid GM
If he replicates last years number he could get a second from a playoff bound team.

Because we don't want our youth to go through learning how to be losers like the Oiler youth. Haven't you learnt anything from Edmonton |

They have gotten the top prospect how many times.... yet still occupy the basement..... They Tank with out trying to tank.... Even with McJesus I am still in wait and see mode before I believe they will actually be a playoff team. And with how badly managed that team has been for soooo long. I couldn't stand that as a fan, Kudos to the fans there for still believing after being so bad for that long. I am quite happy Vans Management doesn't want to become the laughing stock of the league for 10+ yrs

depth in the playoffs for a 3rd round pick or something like that. Depth is key when injuries start to pile up. |
