not sure they are going to get that much at $2.3M cap hit unless they retain half... he is still a bottom six player and $2.3M might be a bit too much for teams come deadline day.

They can retain all of it. It's a one-year deal...

Leafs take Canucks spare parts again LOL.

Great signing by the Leafs. Y'know if he's playing well he's goners at the deadline for a great deal like the Santorelli/Winnik returns.

Yeah that one deal for Mike Santorelli worked out so bad last year for the Leafs...

I agree fully. All of the one year signings have been great. I know we are in for a long long wait before we see what Shanny is building here, but do not forget he Has one of the Best coaches in the NHL. If all the players buy in to Mike's system (witch they will have to) they should all play well enough to net the Leafs a very nice return at the deadline or even give us first crack at extending them if they play well and respond well to Coach Babs. Id rather be a leafs fan during a rough time like this watching them build from the bottom up rather then all the quick fix BS they have tried for years.. Just my thoughts.

Leafs probably promised him top line minutes and the chance to move him to a playoff team at the deadline.

This gives him a chance to really cash in next year.

If only Vancouver's management was smart enough to get something out of those guys before they went to UFA.

The funny thin g is, the Leafs are getting great returns for those 'Sloppy Seconds". Canucks' management is letting them go and getting nothing.

Not really... Why would Vancouver trade Matthias when they were in the midst of a playoff push?

What about Santorelli?

You guys can try to spin it all you want, these are great signings. The returns the Leafs got off of bargin bin signings last summer were fantastic.

Santorelli was injured and didn't play after mid January that year.... kind of hard to trade him... Next?

patiently waiting the Bozak dump.... considering what TOR got for Kessel, I have no expectations.

BTW - LOL @ NHL15 not allowing the Kessel-Penguins trade.

Don't forget with these deals guys, the cap hits for these guys if traded are prorated to the number of games already played for the Leafs.

So $2.3m for Matthias will actually only be ~800k against the cap if dealt right at the deadline.

True....but why would a team pay 800k plus a pic or prospect for a player that couldn't be found with a microscope in the playoff loss to Calgary... There's a reason teams didn't snap him up right away

So, a guy who has never scored 20 goals, will do so this year, playing with a offensively challenged team.

Not only that, but he will do it in 65 games before being traded at the deadline.

C'mon Ek. Just report the signings. No need to throw in a ridiculous prediction to go along with it.

Call me crazy but I don't think they signed him to win anything. He's simply a stop-gap NHL'er to fill out their roster.
- LeftCoaster

Yeah and if a the deadline he has like 13-14 goals... trade him for a pick
