Torres can't be placed on LTIR for any value until the season starts. That's why Savard and Pronger were traded.

Tim, you've ruined my dream. It was fun, but short lived.

I'll settle for one of the two.

Really, the Sharks don't need to do anything else. They've already taken a massive step in the correct direction this year. I'm interested to see how the new D, new goalie, and new coaching staff do. Plus, the young guys will do their progression thing. Worst case is that we can move Wingels at the deadline where he is worth more than he is in the offseason.

p.s. HELL NO on Semin.

Marleau played terrible last season, especially defensively (where his linemates struggled as much as he did). But offensively he was still in top 60 in the league. Let's not be ridiculous here. Unless he regresses next season as much as he did last season, he is still at worst an average albeit overpaid 2nd line forward.

He was, yes, but the Sharks need his play to be top-six all around. He and Couture together was a nightmare last year. They still produced because they are Marleau and Couture, but the defensive cost was incredible. Marleau's all around game was consistent with a third line player, but his points suggest otherwise I know. The best teams get complete play, and that means sheltering Marleau unfortunately. I love Marleau and he got a bum steer when he was captain then not captain, but he's not as savvy as Thornton at this stage, and he needs his like-wrinkled friend to help boost the team play.

What does everyone have against Semin? He's not $7M Semin anymore.

It would be good to sign him on a 1 yr 1.5 deal

He will play lights out for a contract

He had a bad year last year, on a terrible Hurricanes team. Outside of that he's had a great career, even with his two previous Hurricane seasons. He's become a fan favorite whipping boy in the NHL for no good reason.

Thornton is still very much an above average first liner, no doubts there.

Is there a way to find out how many minutes Marleau/Couture played with each defenceman compared to Thornton/Pavelski? Could that have had any impact?

Marleau played roughly 130 more minutes at 5v5 with Vlasic than Thornton did, that second forward line was just awful last year all by its own doing.

I'd be thrilled to have him. He would seriously legitimize our top 6 and may come at a bargain since Carolina is already paying him so much. Trading Wingels for anything and signing Semin would improve our forward core by quite a bit.

What about Hannan? He provided way more detriment than Vlasic provided benefit

In any case there was really no comparison between Thornton and Marleau last season.

Hannan played 18 more minutes with Thornton. I agree, no comparison to Thornton just used it for top-six reference. I doubt that Couture-Marleau-Whoever line would be as bad generally away from total points as it was last year, but I'd rather not take the chance. Heck, maybe Couture is the issue. He's had a declining dCorsi for the last three seasons.

Deal. For a box suite and I want 100% off the 75% Kessel jersey's in stock at the ACC that I saw yesterday.

You've never watched Semin play have you? He's super soft. He has always had 7 million dollar talent and 1 million dollar work ethic.

I'm starting to think your name is Kevin. "Semin is bad" is a popular opinion that's caught on with public opinion like herpes. Play as soft as he wants, as long as he contributes like he can, he's of value. Much more value than most of the Sharks forwards. You can't bully your way to the Stanley Cup. You either have talent, or you don't.

Excellent. I was too cheap to pay the $40 for the jersey.

LOL, you aren't going to win me over with HERO charts or even Corsi. you lost me with those stats forever when you tried to argue that Kennedy was good.

Kennedy was effective in his role with SJ this year. The thing about the "eye-test" is it's heavily weighted on previous bias. I'm not trying to win you over, just trying to open your mind to the possibility that players you herald in the lowest regard may not be as bad as you want them to be.

He just got bought out Tim. Two teams gave up on him...it's not just me! If he was top line talent or even top 6 talent. Teams would find a way to make his salary work...

"I thought you said you didn't have any high priced talent. Forget about Semin because he's only high priced"

I'd take him for $3M or less.....but nothing longer than a year. Guy is a huge vajeen. In the playoffs you need talent that tries hard too. Imhumbleo.

He was bought out to save the Hurricanes owners money, because they deal in actual dollars. The Canes are going to be bad and they want to be bad cheaply. Being bought out doesn't mean you're terrible, it means you aren't up to the amount your worth. Semin isn't worth $7M, but he's still a top-six talent, regardless of what the "people" have pegged him as. Put him on SJ he's more talented than 70% of the forwards.

LOL, okay Tim. You go to bat for Semin. He's going to sign a 1 year deal somewhere and we'll see how he does. He might try hard to rebound his value. Who knows?

He's coming off a season where he scored 6 goals and 19 points in 57 games. There's no path of logic that dictates he's a top 6 player anymore. He has been on the decline for the last 2 years. His last good season was the strike shortened year.
