Based on your assumption about stats, Toews is on of the most grossly overpaid players in the league.
- BigStew

Toews has 3 cups and has never had a season under 20 goals. Not to mention the Selke and everything else

O'Reilly is no where even close to Toews.

Doesn't Toews make $10.5 starting next year? Not sure $7.5 is the same as $10.5 but whatever. If Toews isn't on the Hawks, do you think he has 3 cups? I don't.
- BigStew

Average salary... I go with what counts against the cap. Is that fair? Also, if Toews wasn't on Hawks, do think they would have 3 cups?

But all this is moot. ROR can score 50 goals next year. Buffalo can make the finals.. Then all this was good from Murray.. We have to wait and see.

In conclusion to my argument, ROR is not in the same book as Toews but gets paid just as much. But if you gotta meet the salary cap floor, who cares.

Never said he was, everyone wants to talk about stats and only stats which isn't right. Go take a look at ROR's and Toews stats over the last two year. There isn't much difference.

Pretty sure I wasn't the one talking about stats as they aren't everything. IMO, Chicago wins a cup without Toews on their team, that is how good they are.

I must have missed the part where I said he was?? Reading failure I'd assume.

I simply said you can't outlie RORS contract as "too high" or "ridiculous" when all of those guys are making 1.5x or close to double his contract

- JVince11

Double? Is there a player making 15 mil? Which one? That must be crippling for their cap. You wouldn't be prone to exaggeration would you?

Of those players you listed, which ones are making 6.5 mil in bonuses? Now how does ror compare to them? Ror is a solid player, but he's a second line center on most teams and I doubt he puts up 64 points with buffalo. If he puts up 45-50 points, does that seem like good value?

Another reading comprehension fail... I said "close to double". You wouldn't be prone to reading failures would you?

And Weber, Toews, and Kane have actually salaries of 13+M even though their cap is slightly less. It is easy to assume Kopitar and Stamkos will have 10+M cap hits and some 13-15M salary years too.

And don't assume what he can and cannot do in Buffalo.. he has never had a winger of Evander Kane's level next to him not to mention coaches juggling to slow down Eichel and Reinhart on other lines. He never had top line PP duties either that I'm aware of

Do research and come back

I could be wrong but isn't Toews average $10.5 against the cap?

Why is the assumption that O'Reilly will be the #1 centre for the duration of his contract? He'll likely hold that spot down for max 1 year before Eichel takes it. And at the point you either have him playing on the 2nd line against easier competition or on Eichel's wing. Either way his numbers probably go up.

In 2 years I see it being

Kane Eichel O'Riley
Moulson Reinhart Ennis

That's a pretty solid top 6 if you ask me

If he plays with Eichel who is a better prospect then anyone on the Avs team and Kane who compares to some of the Avs best wingers I'd bet O'Riley will do pretty damn good here. He will be looked at as a leader get better ice time and play an all around great game. With how much the cap will go up this deal is going to look pretty average in a year or two.

No, actually, he hasn't. But Kane won't be his primary winger.

I find it unbelievable that so many of you hadn't paid attention to the world's.
O'Reilly's primary winger will be Ennis. His LW will most likely be Moulson while Kane will most likely be Eichels LW.

I thought Bylsma wasn't too keen on an Kane-Eichel pairing. I agree that you'll see ROR with Ennis.

I posted over in Garf's "blog" too, but there's more action over here.

Toews scored 66pts in 80 games last year. ROR had 55 in 82. Toews is making $10,500,000 in 2016. ROR is making $7,500,000 in 2016 assuming both guys score the exact same amount of points as they did last year (not counting the unexpected). ROR is at about 83.3% of Toews point total but making only 71.4% of the money. Sounds like a deal to me.

And the flip side is true too Benn at $5.25 and Tavares at $5.5 obviously both those guys way out performed ROR this past year, but they signed their deals years ago, so again not really comparable. This is an apples to oranges deal. Just like every deal in the NHL. This deal was signed yesterday; comparing it to deals signed 2 years ago or 10 years ago doesn't make sense. Until Stamkos, Kesler, Tarasenko, Kopitar sign new deals there's no way to say whether it's good or bad. And even then each of those guys brings different things to their respective teams and have different expectations.

I'm not saying ROR is equal to any of the previously stated players just that most people seem to think this is the worst deal in the history of the NHL. You're worth exactly what someone is willing to pay. That's how the world works folks.
