And $40m of that in the first season, $1m each of the next 7 seasons
Why not, it's the Rangers.

Yes because ROR get's 22 million of the 52.5 million in years 1 and 2.

The buyout #'s

Saad's buyout would never vary more than ~850,000. See the difference.

sign a tv deal with espn

problem solved

no reason why nbc and espn can't both show games

It would be great but neither NBC nor ESPN will pay enough money to make all teams profitable like the other major sports.

Those issues will never to away as the NHLPA is only looking out for its top members.
- BigStew

I know, I still had a problem with that during the last lockout.
Among other things.

This is false.
The Kovy contract was an attempt to lower the players AAV, thereby giving NJ an advantage over other teams given there was no commitment in seeing the contract through to the end. I believe the term one owners lawyer used was "product competitive circumvention". Basically calling NJ dishonest in its on ice product.

That is nowhere near the case here as the AAV is on a 7 year stretch wherein on the back side the player is still very much serviceable.

In the end. This will stand, you'll see.

Bettman even stated that the reason it was voided was that it went against the spirit of the cba, the cba at that time, as it was structured like others but they wanted to take a stand, read the quotes after the hearing and all, you will keep seeing "spirit"

I didn't like the contract in the first place but if you go through it there was nothing wrong with it when you looked at that cba and used other contracts like his as comparables

Ror contract may not have anything wrong with it other than it's going to annoy others and players and the spirit of the cba has been removed due to the kovy contract revision of the cba

I think the problem people are having is that it's deals like this that are really dangerous for the future of the NHL. I just wanna watch hockey, I don't really care what the players are making. BUT, pretty soon we're gonna end up with one player being 25% of a teams' cap. And every team will have the problem. It's going to be be a really bad period, financially, for the league.

Because it affects the entire structure of the damn league, where all our teams play, and lockouts with no hockey matters to all.

I would say that hurts, but the Sabres ran out a Calder winner in Tyler Myers for Zach "I can't stay healthy" Bogosian. Not a real win in hat deal.

Chicago is already finding this out, 30% cap to 2 players.

Yep. It really is time for a different pay system in the NHL. I don't see the problem with coming up with some sort of metric for forwards, defensemen, and goaltenders that involve performance based pay.

NHLPA would have the problem.
I like the cap, no offense, it showed which GM's could really manage, and then there was Paul Holmgren.

he's only calder winning when he leaves, but when he was on the sabres he was a one hit wonder.

Same way Zadorov was somehow "overrated" when he was a sabre but now that he's on the avs he's a future #1.

Even Grigorenko went from bust to i can't believe the sabres gave him up!

It's getting a little old, try something creative for a change.

Already mentioned that. Weber's deal is longer and in years 2016-22 the League gets to escrow out of 4 million dollar and 6 million dollar salary.

- blacksheep1

Oh, okay, that makes a huge difference...

$68M dollars the league is losing on escrow to Shea Weber signing bonus. Thats more than most of the leagues players contracts. Thats $22.5M MORE than what the league is losing to ROR contract.

"We're losing out on escrow of $68M, but don't worry, we get some of that back..." what a terrible argument.
