Kane and O'Reilly each have 1(Yes that's 1) 20 goal season

Statistics say half the prospects and picks we trade away for NHLers may not score a total of 20 goals in the NHL. Sooner or later you have to get real NHL players on your team.

Nyquist doesn't sniff the NHL until 22 or 23

This is exactly why I don't mind trading away the picks and prospects, if we draft well and develop guys over the next 3 or 4 years we will be laughing.

Could you imagine if Detroit traded Nyquist+++ for Kane a few years ago?

Does anybody know how Connor Hurley's development is going? Did Murray offer him a contract? Do we have to make a decision to sign him or let him re-enter the draft? I never hear anything about the kid.

The Buffalo Sabres just announced that they've issued qualifying offers to seven restricted free agents: Mark Pysyk, Johan Larsson, Tim Schaller, Nathan Lieuwen, Jerry D'Amigo, Phil Varone, and Jerome Gauthier-Leduc.

Yes, I saw, but they were all under contract already. So my question was are we going to lose Hurley if we don't get him under contract sometime soon?

Murray told both of them to stay in school another year.

Baker has Malone ahead of him on the depth chart. Not a very impressive first season at Notre Dame. Seems like a risky 2nd rd pick.

Oh, that's right. I forgo that he was a NCAA kid and therefore a different set of rules apply. Thanks

He didn't want zads or grigs on the team. It wouldn't surprise me if they go back to a no Russian policy. And lemieux didn't want to sign with buffalo for whatever reason. Armia was a good prospect. And Myers was Myers. Compher is a decent prospect. But overall he unloaded contracts he didn't want and picked up ones he did.
- Themomentgood

No, that is a misconception or perhaps misinterpretation.

Lemieux didn't want to sign THIS PAST YEAR, which is what the team wanted. He would've signed for the coming year. This is per Paul Hamilton who, like him or not, knows his stuff.

Saying that, though, I'm fine with all the trades TM has made.

With Giordano asking for the moon does Russell become an option for us?

The consensus was that, if he'd gone in the draft the following year, he would've been a 1st round pick.

I've heard everything from "too small" to "steal, where we got him".

We shall see.

So difficult to say what the Flames do but I would think they would like to re-sign both Russell and Giordano. Maybe it leaves them moving Smid. They could have some serious cap issues next year.

All you guys panicking we still have plenty of forwards in our prospect ranks. The whole point of having a prospect pool is hoping out of the group some "hit" and become NHLers. The reality is most don't. We essentially mitigated the risk and got proven talent, talent that is young and only a couple years older than all these prospects everyone seemed to love.

You prospect lovers can rest easy though, with the core of our team being 24 and under the next couple drafts will restock the cupboards. I'll take NHL players over prospects any day. The Stanley cup is won by NHL players not hockey futures.com rankings.

100% agree

We have been poope for 2+ years now. Enough with the draft picks. Let's get some known commodities (re: NHL players) in the line-up. I am completely fine with what Murray has to give up to get Kane, ROR, Bogo, Lehner, McGinn. We'll actually have an NHL team next year to watch. Can't wait!

BTW - Happy 4th to all of my American cousins. I love Canada and I love the United States. Best two countries in the world
