Can Tampa's ownership afford to give him 100 mil over 8 years?

I don't see why not. They spend up to the cap for the most part.

He played on a line with Landy and Mack, but I digress. ROR will be a good staple in the Sabres organization for years to come. 7.5 per is obviously a hefty contract but all things considered he'll probably play like a 6.5m player so 1m dollars worth of underachieving isn't the end of the world as all nhl teams have these players. I'm just happy all the ROR drama is over and we got a solid return for him. It's a bonus that I live in buffalo and get to watch him grow! All in all, I like where my avs and sabres are heading and an avalanche / sabres SCF isn't a pipe dream anymore. Happy 4th everyone!

I've always liked the way ROR plays. While I agree that the $7.5m is a little steep, the way things are going, this will be a good deal for Buf the last 3 years of the term.
Sabres Fans should welcome that fact that ROR is stoked to be going there & wants to develop his leadership qualities. Will watch his progress with interest.

What a terrible contract for 50 point player. This coming from someone who likes his game. 2 million a year to much not mention the odd contract.

Is this 1995 or 2015?

It all changed with the pk deal and the kane toews deals

Anyone have the rundown on Cal?
Is he a signing to make the Amerks competitive or was it just a bone thrown to his brother?
Stats say career AHL'er.

Toews and him had basically the same numbers two years ago. I'm not saying he is Toews but this isn't an era where guys are putting up 120 points anymore. ROR plays in every situation and has great leadership, when this is all said and done, it will be a very fair contract.

Injuries have ruined him. He could very well be a top 4 d if he wasn't constantly injured. I think a young D is on the way and Carlo is the 6th with Weber being the 7th
- Stripes77

Weber isn't that bad as long as he isn't playing top 4 minutes. He will do just fine in a 5-6 roll.

I would rather have a player like James van Riemsdyk who has better numbers in less games and has a better salary cap hit. Never complains and has a better attitude the O'Reilly.

PK deal,he is better than ROR. Kane and Toews better not like winning cups cus once those deals kick in and the cap comes down next year they wont ever win another. This contract wont hurt the sabres now but it will in 3-5 years when they have to resign the kids all of which will be better than ROR so will want more money than him.

FYI I like RORs game and would want him on my team any day just not at that sticker price.

and yet you would pay him the same amount next year it's basically a UFA Deal at age 24!!!!!!! if he was 30 and got this contract we'd all be pissed but that's what the UFA market does

Lol... yes because adding guys like Kane, ROR, Eichel, and the #1 prospect in hockey from last season typically does that

Girgensons, Eichel, Risto, and Reinhart will need new deals but even after signing ROR we still have 15M in cap space and guys like Gorges and Gionta with bigger cap hits will be gone.

We are good

Yeah I'm not sure if gmtm handles the cap projections or if they have someone else who specializes in that but that's probably why you're not seeing them hand out the big contracts to the mid 30 year old dmen. Cap management.

Chychrun/Day would solve our "shoots left D" problem.

Just saying...
