On another note, I really hope this Giordano contract gets sorted out sooner rather than later. We don't need any distractions heading into the season. Let's get it done |

I don't think it'll be a problem. Gio wants to stay and management and his teammates love him. Pay the man Subban-type money and keep him in Calgary! |

It's kind of tricky with his age. He might not be elite once he hits 35+, but he'll probably still be a top 4 dman until he's 36/37.
Would also rather sign him now though, his price could go a bit higher if he has a repeat season next year. He was having a Norris-caliber season. |

It's good to get him signed long term. Otherwise we could have a Chris Pronger situation if he signs a multi year after he hits 35. I say 8 years at 6 million per is good. He'll be a bargain at the beginning of the contract but will seem overpaid near the end. |

He's not going to come in anywhere near 6 million. |

Agreed. Hopefully 5 is the max. A 6th year would hurt down the road. |

I'm hoping for 4 as well. That would take him to 36 years old. With his injury history and with him aging I say 4 is perfect. Anything over 5 could bite us in the donkey. I'm guessing he will want at least a 5 year deal though |

There is the rub. Gio is torn. He is at the height of his career and is likely worth that 8 million figure now but in 2-3 years he will be a second pairing D Man and how can you justify 6 or more.
I guess the real question does he want the money now or does he want the term. 8 yrs at 50 mill or 3 years at 24 mill. the 3 years is so he can sign a contract before age 35 which makes a big difference with teams because of the buyout.. |

I could see the gio contract something like 5 years 8 million first 2 years and 6 in the last 3. |

How is MacDonald's progress been compared to Demko who went 2 spots after him? |

2nd best save percentage in the Q last year. Don't know how Demo is doing. |
