Not sayin' we should stop trying to get another top-notch D man, but I really believe adding Pysyk (and not having Z around to compete with minutes) is a HUGE upgrade in and of itself. Pysyk, Bogo and Risto is three-quarters of a damn fine top-4.

Pysyk's ice time will grow as the season goes on, imo, and he's way less mistake prone than almost anyone we have.

You speak the truth. Nadal was beating Federer when Roger was in his prime. And he was doing it on all surfaces. I'm pretty confident that had Nadal stayed injury free, he'd have more slams than Federer.
We've been fortunate to have three incredible players in Nadal, Federer and Djokovic on tour at the same time.

- 100goalseason

Totally agree. Nadal was beating Federer, as you said on all surfaces, at a time when nobody was beating Federer and few were even taking sets off of him.

If not for hurting his leg, Nadal would have won Wimbledon in back to back years, when Federer was at his absolute peak.

There are matches where Nadal has humbled Federer as well.

The Australian Open final where Nadal beat Federer after having a 5+ hour match against Verdasco remains one of the all time efforts. That and coming back after losing a gut wrenching 4th set to beat Fed in a Wimbledon final.

how many good teams are there in the east?

really good
bolts
pens

good but needs top notch goaltending
habs
rangers

good
islanders

did I miss anything?

- homiedclown

Detriot, Boston (despite their moves, still better than the sabres) , Florida is on the up swing, Columbus would have made the playoffs last year if it wasn't for the longest list of injuries I've ever seen.

Playoffs are a long long reach next year. I'm excited to see improvements, and hoping to see them fighting for a playoff spot in 16/17

I know there is a lot of excitement for this coming season, as there should be, as it will be great to see a team actually trying to win for the first time in at least two years, but I think the best thing for the team long term would be to play well, finish in the bottom 6-8 of the league again, and get another high 1st round pick.

They would have a chance with the new lottery rules to get the 1, 2, or 3 pick, and at worst get the 10th or 11th pick.

I think that would put them over the top long term.

After the hype of this draft, I would be looking to acquire a 1st round pick from other teams that most believe are playoff caliber but could miss the playoffs, just to have the extra lottery chance.

I still have hopes that Nadal can string together a couple more good seasons of top-3 tennis and catch Federer on the majors list.

I should have added the blue jackets to the good list

I am not sold on the red wings and bruins being that much better then us, IMO our top 6 will be better then most teams in the east this coming season

the after taste from the briere/drury chaos will finally be removed from my palate

who would fetch us a first, aside from moving our young core?

I don't see anyone on this roster worthy of a first rd pick not named
risto
bogo
pysyk (stretch)
girgens
reinhart
ror
eichel
ennis (maybe)

honestly I do not want to part with any of those 8 players unless it's for a huge upgrade

Yeah, but I bet none of them give away the puck as much as Max.

As a defender, all you have to do is stand there and wait for him to deke himself out.

to be fair, he was playing with scrubs that could not cross the blue line when he was already in the other zone

I would say he was probably the most misused player for the sabres the last 12 years, along with gringo

If Lehner can post a GAA around 2.75 - and he needs another top 4 Dman to help with that - this team will lose in the second round of the playoffs.

Mark it.

- Der Kaiser

Noted schultzie. I sure hope you're right, and if we get a top 4 dman plus another stay at home good solid defender, I'll like it a lot more.
