And Semin will see how well it worked for Hoff....
- sammy87

Never getting into the swing of things because he got injured? Then got into the swing of things, then injured again. Hoff is still a good player, just had a misfortune season last year with all the injuries.

Right, and he could lose money on the decision. Say Semin takes a big concussion or other injury he is basically risking his career with a move like that. If I were his agent, I wouldnt recommend it.

The roster with the return for 71 will be better than the current roster with $5mil thrown at Tlusty/Semin/Frolik cuz thats what you're looking at. The future will be better than what it would cost to acquire Kessel as well.
- sammy87

Sorry Sammy but with Geno's money ($9.5M) you would only be able to sign Frolik and Beleskey. I'd rather have Geno.

What kind of return do you expect for Crosby? Last season he wasn't any better than Geno (probably worse) during the season.

Huh? He can be concussed playing for any team, like any player regardless of being "fragile"...

Semin has 62 goals in his last 243 games.

He's useless trash, and would be a negative influence on the team with his pansy-emo attitude.

Hoff took what $4mil, 1 yr deal here? Due to his injuries he most likely wont get a long term deal again and wont be north of 4mil.....At the time last year he most likely could have taken a 5mil/6yr deal....

So most deals are dead set already. Hopefully Tikhonov and Semin become Penguins.

Nope, hes got fancy stats, he was great 6 yrs ago...never mind the Caps didnt want to commit long term to him, he was a healthy scratch for hte Canes and bought out, Pens should jump all over this! Brilliant!

BTW go read the comments on hte Canes blog from fans that watched him night in, night out.

Jokinen was in a similar situation except he was traded with salary retained and JJ turned out to be an excellent low cost pickup. I don't like Semin a lot, but this is a low risk move that might prevent other moves from being made so I am fine with it.

See below what a Canes fan thought

His defensive game is solid. He is excellent at getting the puck away from attacking players.

Problem last year was his shot. He couldn't shoot the puck properly coming off of wrist surgery, and it started affecting his game. Positionally, he was doing the right things, but you could tell his confidence had hit rock bottom as he struggled to make things happen on the offensive side of the ice.

And bingo was his name-o.

Michal Neuvirth:

"If Semin wanted to, he could have been the best player in the world, but he doesn’t want to every day."

Matt Bradley:

"“When you’ve got a guy like that, you need him to be your best player, or one of your best players, and when he doesn't show up, you almost get the sense that he wants to be back in Russia. "

Troy Brouwer:

"Some nights you didn’t even know if [Semin] was gonna come to the rink. It’s tough to play alongside guys like those because you don’t know what you’re gonna get out of ‘em.”

And of course these are all from a while ago and in regards to playing for a contender. Then he went out and sulked and quit on Carolina.

My fear is that JR will grab him cheap and call it a day. That roster will blow and thats putting too much faith into a project player Semin and a player that has never sniffed NHL hockey (Plat). That could be disastrous or marginally better than last yr.

Perron is also a guy not afraid to play in the dirty areas. Depending on who they get, they may want to take a look at what Geno and Perron can do together when both are healthy.
