Save Sund's ELC for when he is ready for prime time at 3C, and when Maatta and Pouliot get expensive. They'll need that ELC at 3C then a lot more than they need it an ELC at 4C now.

Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Fleury, Maatta (6?), Pouliot (4?) Seems a little unrealistic to keep together, but flooding the team with Sundqvist Kapanens and maybe even Sprong around then could make it a possibility.

The pens actually have a little cap wiggle room this year. Spend a little $ on the low lines now (guys like Parenteau, Boyes, stempniak, B Richards, etc. on short contracts) so that they can have good, dirt cheap depth when they Reeeeaaallyyyy need it

Pens sign Semin and since CBJ need to dump salary, trade for Hartnell.

I doubt they would. They've got cap space for him without MSL and Hagelin. No reason for them to unload Miller.

To be honest, i would rather have Tlusty. Much more affordable and in 2012 had 23G 38P in 48 GP... Great affordable player. Im sure his stats would get the "pittsburgh inflation" as well

They might be heavier than the Kings, that is a lot of power forwards.

Johansen, Saad, Hartnell, Foligno, Jenner, Dubinsky, Clarkson, Bourque, Rychel. Atkinson looks out of place on that roster.

Having Scuderi on the roster is bad enough. Keeping Sutter and Spaling is a death sentence. Better and cheaper players are available tomorrow. No reason to retain them aside from incompetence.

I can understand JR going at it as a patient GM, however he needs to pull a trigger tonight or tomorrow and we absolutely have to dump at least 1 or 2 of the bad contract. If i have to watch scuds struggle in a 6th pairing roll again for a whole season, idk what I'm going to do.

I forget where I read it.... Somebody brought up the idea the reason they might not want to buy out Scuds is because it makes a team look bad with reneging on the contract. I don't know how valid that is, but I agree, we have some serious dead weight.

Obviously Scuds contract is bad, but the Spaling deal bothers me almost as much. I can't stand him.

Agreed. No UFAs of good value will be available after the first few days. Trim the fat of overpaid players even if it is only for picks. The team WILL NOT be competitive with ~$5m of overpaid money in Scuderi, Spaling, and Sutter.
