If his cap hit is as high as what these rumors are, for what we would have given up, I'm content with JR's decision making.

Drew Stafford, who has never done anything, has a new 4.35M cap hit. Adding a Nick Spaling contract on top of that and it equating to the prime of Saad's career is a wonderful cap hit.
- Johnny Wrath

Dont they have the same goals per game? I know Saad is obviously improving every season and is going to be awesome, but .26 goals per game is lower second line.

Madden said that Ryan Johansen took or is looking to take a bridge deal to free up room to fit in Saad.
- so_buzz11

Ryan Johanson is getting paid $4 million per for the next 2 seasons. He'll be expensive at the end of that.

Also, if i was a betting man, id place my bets on us getting Semin, and sign some low budget FA's. Thats going to be our roster come this October.

Whoever said it before is right. Love Saad (indepedent of where he was born) but he's not nearly as valuable at $6M. He is worth it, but Saad on his deal with the hawks was 1000x more valuable.

Assuming same assets to acquire would you guys rather have Saad at $6.5M or Kessel at $8M

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Kessel.

Really hoping we make a deal for Kessel if the rumours are true about 2M retained. We need to be able to compete with a team like CBJ.
I think the best thing for this team is to sign the 2 Russians, skip on Semin, trade for Kessel and fill out the remaining roster with as much speed as we can find.
MJs system is perfect to beat teams that forecheck hard.

Kessel Crosby Hornqvist
Perron Malkin Plotnikov
Kunitz Tikanov Dupuis
Spaling Rust Megna/Wilson

Letang Maata
Cole Dumoulin
Lovejoy Gonchar maybe to keep the Russians in line.
Chorney

The d is a little think, if we can fit Franson/Green in there I would but even with that D I think we are competative, they can all get to and move the puck efficiently which is all we need them to do.

Bring up Kessel: "you can't both trade low salary assets for a guy already making so much money!"

Bring up Saad: "OMG THE PENS ARE GOING TO BE SO BAD BECAUSE THEY MISSED OUT"

Expensive youth is the most overrated thing in sports.

I love the move, they get even deeper up front, but they are not that strong on the back end to pay for all that aging talent up front. Hartnell and Clarkson cost you like 10 mill right? I think they overpaid Foligno too.
- usethe1-2-2

Love getting Saad for them as well, but like you said there are lots of questionable contracts. Next year with Saad will have 60, 61M for 13 players and need new deals for Jenner and Murray with Johansen's extention looming. Be interesting to see what they do next. Still think they want to add a top 4 defenseman.

F Saad @ $6.5M. I'd pass easily.

We'll be just fine. We might pull some unexpected trade.

I'm almost wanting to sign Frolik for this team. Speed+two way play.

Couldn't agree more. I would try to pick up semi though too if its 3.5 for a year. Seems pretty low risk and a high reward.

Why are you comparing Saad to bad contracts? 6.5M for him is no more a bargain than 8M for Kessel. One contract is bigger, but the Kessel is better than Saad to this point. The point is Saad no longer has a good cap hit.

I'm with those thinking Chicago did OK with their return. They get Anisimov, who will be their 2C ( he's an upgrade on 35 year old Brad Richards), and Dano, who is a highly ranked prospect and showed down the strech he is NHL ready. With the supporting cast in Chicago Dano may end up being Saad 2.0 for them. It was quite clear the desired return for CHI was young NHL ready players, which we didn't have any to give.

Pouliot/ Kap would have been a nice return for them for sure as well, but clearly they desired forwards who could play next season.

You know, they could actually trades for Kessel and sign Semin if they dumped Kunitz. Imagine this board then.

Remember how Hawks fans were talking about players taking discounts to play for a winner? This should shut them up.

I think they should have gotten more with Saad's rep. Then again, I'd say the same for us and Neal and most of us have liked the return. Maybe this works the same for CBJ because I do like Anisimov and Dano. Just hard to see them equal Saad.

A couple of Chicago blog writers are saying they heard the Hawks will probably trade Anisimov ($3.5M) to lighten the cap.

With the incoming of Anisimov does it mean Brad Richards could be coming to PIT?

He'd be a nice replacement for Sutter and could get Top 6 minutes with Geno. High hockey IQ matches well with him.

Dano had 21 pts in 35 games after being called up by CBJ last year and still has 2 season @925K.... He'll be Saad 2.0.. They'll get two seasons of top 6 production out of him at a bargain basement price. If he takes Saad 's spot with Toews and Hossa I bet he puts up 60pts.
