Can't tell me that Dano is worth Saad... or was a better potential than Pouliot...
Chicago didn't want him coming here... and I don't believe that 6.5 for 6 years until its inked. I think thats one of those fake media leaks to justify the trade and then they claim he signed for less. - Guile
Why the (frank) does everyone want to trade Pouliot?
Do you want to get no value at all from the Staal trade? |

I'm sorry was Dano the only part of the trade? |

So... if you want to play that... Staal for Saad isn't a good value? 3rd line center for a top winger? |

And if that Dano doesn't pan out... it will be the worst deal that happened this year. - Guile
If Pouliot didn't turn out for CHI it would be a bad trade for them too. That's why they got multiple prospects back. Anisimov is versatile and can play C or W now. I'm not devastated by this at all. |

Anisimov is solid but that's really it. You're talking #7 ranked prospect vs #47 |

It was a trade for the future. Weakens them in the immediate term, but likely turns out a better team in the long run. Not a concept Pens fans have ever really encountered aside from the Staal trade. - jfkst1
Exactly.
Chicago has done a good job of building themselves into a "Next-Man-Up" situation where they go big, grab a cup, trade away the luxury pieces and have guys ready to step up into those open spots so they an go big again a year or two further down the line.
None of this lunacy where they keep trying to add from the outside year after year buying players and obliterating their depth. |

Hopefully Bowman made a poor projection and misses on the trade. I'm not disappointed at all in still having Pouliot and Kapanen. |

I think the biggest thing from this trade is a division rival just got a lot stronger..... |

Big part of why they are a dynasty and Pens are one of the biggest disappointments in modern sports. One organization is patient and forward thinking and the other is reactionary. |

Oh, I'msorry were Anisimov and Dano the only 2 involved in the deal?
Is it really that hard. Before the deal Chicago had a salary cap of salary cap of about $65 with 8 Nhl forwards signed for next year. They needed CHEAP NHL READY talent to play forward. AND on top of it they may need to trade Sharp still, so there is another NHL forward spot that needs to be filled. They added 4 NHL ready forwards in this deal.

i dunno. color me glad the pens didn't give up Maatta or Pouliot.
If Saad truly wants 6.5, then he isn't a special asset anymore. It'd be like signing a free agent, plus giving up stuff for him.
Maatta and Pouliot are still super cheap and have years left being super cheap.
Saad is better than both Maatta and Pouliot, but both Maatta and Pouliot are *more valuable* than Saad.
A year from now when Maatta's asking for something like 6.5 as well, Maatta for Saad will make more sense.
Nothing is more overrated by sports fans than youth that is also expensive.
If Maatta or Pouliot are dealt, it MUST either be straight up for another young CHEAP star, OR for a great expensive player, but with scuderi going the other way as well. Otherwise, the Pens lose the deal even if they get the best player. |
