Ok... had to look up some of those players...

BJs send a mid 6 winger, a maybe 2nd, more likely 3rd Center, 2 bottom 6 players (one who Chicago already let go), and a 4th... for Saad, and two prospects, one that looks like a good potential, one looks like a huge bust.

I don't get it. I can't believe the Pens couldn't beat that.

Anisimov is a 3rd C and Dano is a 3rd/4th line winger. What did JR offer that was worse? Scuderi and a 7th?
- drummer829

Dano is 20, and will be a good player. The rest doesn't make sense.

Possible Chicago didn't want him going to an immediate contender... lets go with that before we preemptively hang JR.

Of course we could offer sheet Saad...

CHI traded Saad because he was looking for 6 yrs with AAV of $6.5M. May have been an offer sheet coming tomorrow from a team with those #s.

I'm actually crying. What a (frank) up on Rutherford's part allowing Saad to go to a division rival for such a mediocre price. Pouliot, Sutter, Bennett, and a third is a better package than what they got and all things considered Pouliot's the only piece that would have mattered from our end.

I'd laugh so hard I would cry... Blue Jackets might struggle to match over 5 mil, due to being a bit poorer of a franchise.

WOW. i get in the shower for 10 minutes and come back to this? Yikes.

Damn.... too bad we couldnt make it happen. That package doesnt sound like anything we couldnt have matched. seems like Hawks were looking for forwards and we obviously dont have any.

shame, this would have been huge.

6 yrs @$6.5 per is ridiculous! He has more to prove before getting those numbers.

They have a great group of forwards but are still weak on defense. If they improve that they'll be scary

Just got a text from my friend from the Pens and he says that everyone in the hockey ops in the pens are just stunned right now. He says they felt their offer was way better but from what he said the deal DID NOT include Maatta but instead was Pouliot. He also said that next year's first wasnt involved.

the deal breaker apparently was kapanen. CHI liked him but didnt like how he wasnt NHL ready yet. Had he been closer to NHL duty, the Penguins would likely have Saad right now.

That's what he "wants". I think he will land around 5.5 for 5 or 6 years.

Still... Pouliot and Kappy seems to be much better than what they got. Shocking.

So... they took back players that are not good NHL quality, and prospects who are further away than Kap?

They simply didn't want Saad going to a contender at this point.

F Semin at any price. I was floored by the Hamilyon trade and completely dumbfounded and disgustingly ads to usher by the Saad trade. The Bruins and the Blackhawks are significantly weaker teams now. Maybe Kessel is a good idea because the balance of power has shifted to WIDE open. Now is the time to strike. But Pouliot is still a deal killer.

If the Hawks wanted a young center, we really couldn't match Dano.

Still, maybe the Bowman is the greatest talk will die down. This looks much worse than the Despres trade. Start listing the best players on the Hawks he signed or traded for.

Well looks like they'll keep Sharp now (that's good for us). OK, I'm over it; let's move on.
