Yup. If the goal is just the shield youngsters, there will be plenty of UFA options on the cheap to fill spots.

That's my point. Franson isn't best for development. An open roster spot would be as opposed to a 6x6 contract for a guy who you failed with but at a cheaper cost. I don't even understand the point you're trying to make, no offense. Kinda seems all over the place.

agreed. I mean, I like Franson. I think he's great on the PP. Obviously he can't play D and sucks in his own end, but so does Gardiner and Dion, but that really isn't the point. The issue with him possibly coming back is his asking price and term. I do believe he wants a long term deal, and I don't think we should give him that, ESPECIALLY at his asking price. If it's a something like 1 or 2 years at 4.5, why not?

We still need bodies. Robidas won't play much, and if Dion is moved it'll leave us with Rielly, Gardiner, Polak, Erixon, possibly Brennan and a older, often banged up Robidas. We're going to, well, supposed to be bad. I wouldn't throw everything on Rielly/Gardiner right away. Not saying they can't handle it, because truthfully I just don't know if they can/can't , but I think you get what I'm saying.

I've made it known on here that I'd LOVE for us to get Oduya. I think he would definitely be a great fit paired up with Rielly or Gardiner. I know, why would he go from a Stanley Cup winning team and every year contender to the rebuilding Leafs, but he would be great. Guy has all heart and you gotta love that. I do believe he won't be back with Chicago, and I am hoping we can sign him tomorrow.

Leafs sign him to 1-2 years at 2 M per, and play him ~40 games per season, I'm ok with that.
