I don't see them trading Yakupov and Draisaitl in the same deal either. I can see them trading one as the major piece, and adding from there with lesser assets. Maybe one of them, plus RFA Justin Schultz, for Phaneuf and Polak, That would give them 7 signed NHL defensemen, with Nurse and Reinhart held back in the minors to develop for another year, at which point Nikitin, Gryba, and Polak's contracts would be expired. Leafs would pair Schultz with Gardiner or Rielly, and see if Babcock can make effective use of their combined mobility.

Although I tend to agree, it wouldn't necessarily shock me either. Draisaitl, along with Edmonton's plan moving forward, became expendable the second Bill Daly turned over that golden Oilers logo placard in late April.
