For once, I'd love to see them enter the season not spending completely up to the cap limit. During the season, good players get waived, teams get into cap trouble, GMs go on tilt to try to make the PO's, etc....all opportunities that require cap space to exploit.

Sure, fill some holes in UFA and try to make the PO's if they must... but I hope Hexy continues to opt out of the initial July 1 frenzy, and keeps value for dollar in mind (and doesnt spend every last bloody cent).

Hextall's next call should be to Steve Yzerman.

Could be longer than 1-2 years for some.

Not to mention, there's no guarantee they'll all work out as NHL caliber. I'm hoping, but chances are one or two won't live up to expectation when the time comes.

During Game 7 of the Flyers-Bruins series in 2010, when the Bruins scored to make it 3-0 in the first period, Lucic skated by the Flyers' bench and taunted them. Words to the effect of how the Flyers were already done and the series was over.

Later, Simon Gagne said that Lucic's words backfired. The Flyers were feeling a bit down on bench but Lucic promptly ticked them off and strengthened their resolve. Then JVR scored before the period end, the Flyers very much felt in the game.

Sounds a lot like the results of a particular fight in a Flyers-Pens playoff game 6 started by a guy "we're all gonna love."

Speaking of that, Bob Froese (now the senior pastor in a church in Clarenence, NY) celebrates his 57th birthday today.

If I had to pick I think it will be Haag. I would love to make some deal where we move Hagg for a young winger like Drouin, Rychel, Mantha.

Something where we move a d prospect(Haag) for a forward prospect.

You know, I had forgotten about that incident (you've brought it up before on these very boards) and I don't remember seeing it or attention being called to it during the broadcast. But then, my memory isnt what it used to be.

You'd have to sweeten the deal.

If not, maybe

If a defenseman is included in a deal to get a player like Drouin, it's not likely going to be Haag.

The draft and recent deals have gone over well for most of us, if not all of us. I think the Grossmann/Pronger for Gagner is a good move, especially if we keep Gagner. However, I'm not so sure Hextall should be so quick to re-sign players such as Nick Schultz, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and 32 year old unproven NHL rookie Yevgeni Medvedev. I think Scott Laughton can hand a 4th line center role, while working his way up. Patrick Sharp wasn't hurt by this is his first couple of NHL season. We also have Samuel Morin who could also earn a spot on the but these premature signing make Morin's chances more difficult. With two more seasons left on Umberger's deal, I wouldn't allow pride to be the reason why Umberger isn't bought out if we cannot move him. It was a bad deal. I'm also hoping we can retain Ryan White.

Still a far from perfect roster but many of us expect more of the same anyway.
