Do you think the Flyers should've ponied up the 7th overall pick for Hamilton?

With all of today's news, I am about to post a new blog. Hate breaking up the ongoing thread but tomorrow is a travel day for me and there will likely need to be updates on additional roster news -- at the very least, the signing of 2nd/3rd goalies.

Will note here when new blog is posted.

Boston got a 1st and two 2nds for a defenseman every team covets. A number one franchise guy.

Which is strange because they need one.

I think I would have, too. But if they were offering him around the whole league I think CBJ among other teams could have offered more.

Hamilton extension is 6 yrs and close to $34.5 mil total. Flames pushed for 8 yrs and Hamilton wanted 5. Good compromise.

MDZ is the only Flyer who might go to arbitration, right?

http://www.generalfanager.com/buyouts

Buyout windows

The first buyout window opens on the later of June 15th or 48 hours after the Stanley Cup final and closes on June 30th at 5pm EST.

For teams with two or more arbitration filings in an offseason, an additional buyout window is available 48 hours after the team's last arbitration filing is awarded or settled.

For this buyout window, there is a minimum AAV requirement on the player being bought out that varies annually. The estimated minimum for the 2015 offseason is $2,985,625. In addition to meeting this minimum AAV, the player must have been on the team's reserve list for the previous year to qualify for this buyout window. Teams can execute a maximum of 3 buyouts in this additional buyout window over the course of the entire CBA term.

According to the Bruin's blogger
OK, so the Bruins came at the 22-year-old with a six-year deal worth $33 million.

Calgary might be a very solid team next year. They have a bunch of young forwards in Monahan, Bennet, and Gaudreau and their defense is pretty strong and young with the addition of Hamilton

That's it, exactly -- I thought about if it was an open auction, how much I would've offered if I was the Flyers GM

And again, this is just me, and how I see the value of a guy like a 22-year-old Dougie Hamilton

I'd have offered No. 7, Scott Laughton, their pick of any defenseman in the system other than Sanheim, and next year's first

And if they pushed harder, I'd have offered Sanheim and said next year's first is a second

Why? Because you can't find Dougie Hamilton. You can't find a (frank)ing guy like that

And they just gave him away

Wow... and for two years people have been mad at me for saying we should have taken him in the draft instead of Couturier.

That said... I'm not trading Laughton, Sanheim and Provorov for Dougie Hamilton. I think you're getting a bit excited about Hamilton.
