I'm getting dejavu. I remember when Holmgren first took over and he made the moves he made, such as adding Timonen and Hartenll and moving the Flyers from a last overall team, to a playoff team to ECF to the SCF. He was well thought of. Not sure where this his isn't cut from the same mold is coming from. He had a good few days. Holmgren had plenty of good days himself. Let's see what happens long term.

WE can debate every GM.

Most have good and bad deals.

Cut from the same cloth as acting a little impulsively rather than looking at a 5 year plan. I think Hextall has more an eye to the future as well as the present then some of the previous GMs.

when he agrees to buy out Vinny for us

Deal. Semin has much to offer. He is a great locker room presence, always competes at a high level, and is renowned for his back checking.

It is completely different. The styles are not even remotely close.

Hextall is building through youth, and saving cap space for the future.

Is that the same thing Holmgren did?

Not saying Holmgren didnt do a good job at turning the team around early on, but they are on totally different ends of the spectrum at this point.

Other than Streit and the recently signed Medvedev, who I can't make a judgment on, there's not a single Philly D-man I would argue we need to keep over another. Del Zotto just doesn't have a contract.

The trade market seem wild to anyone else? The return on supposed value is all over this off season.

- mayorofangrytown

you thinking this based on the kind of picks being thrown back for marginal players?

He probably did work out a lot and build some muscle. But he also didn't play. One of the main things they wanted from him was playing better without the puck. It's something hard to do when your not in a game situation.

No one ever questions his offensive instincts. It's the playing without the puck side and defensive side they wanted improvement in.

He spent a lot of time w/ Kjell Samuelsson, analyzing the flow of play from the pressbox.... I'm sure he picked up a few things from just doing that.

Not saying he doesn't have to play some catch up... but he's probably as NHL-ready as he was last year at least. Still like to see him, and all the other kids, in the AHL or junior until 2016.

Semin at his worst still provides more than what Vinny did last year.

Flyers keeping Gagner makes me believe they found another way to clear cap space
- Winning

Space for what? They already have plenty of cap space to sign MDZ and a goalie.

I do, it wouldn't be that hard.
- MJL

So if one of our free agents suffer a brutal injury. One of them has an all-star season, or one of them flat out sucks? Way to many variable to be sure of how easy-hard it would be to resign them.

Perfect example. We sign MDZ to a one year deal. He puts up 45 points next season. Is he an easy sign? Doubt it.

You would think, but last year they both played 57 games. Semin had 19 points, Vinny had 20.

Glad that they (it appears) are going to give Gagner a shot

One year isn't going to hurt anyone, especially with how weak FA is

Either he gets the job done, or he doesn't

I thought he had an older sister...

Gostisbehere learned how to skate at what was then called Incredible Ice — the Panthers' training facility in Coral Springs. It was the same ice his older sister, Felicia, trained on while she pursued her dream to become an Olympic figure skater, only to fall short.
