And I'd be okay with that, signing him for a couple of seasons.

I agree that only Morin has a good chance to start this season. But I'm looking at next season and 17/18 as well. Not sure if I like paying a guy $3.5M if we are banking on 1-2 younger guys giving us (hopefully) similar production for a fraction of the price.
- jmatchett383

Streit macdonald are the only 2 defenseman on the books by than. So question is how many prospects do we see ready? I am not a big believer in hagg. And gost I think needs more time than people expect. Morin agreed is my only legit chance of big club. But I think more than likely morin prov next year MAYBE sanheim or gost the following year. But think more than likely only morin prov are in the nhl by 2017 and gost sanheim debut in 2018.

Yeah.

I am not sure what to do with Del Zotto. I would like him probably on a 1 or 2 year deal. I think it gives you a nice asset that can be moved if needed on that type of deal also your not tied up long term if he struggles.

I don't think hextall is going to do anything stupid. If the deal doesn't make sense then I think he'll move him. Maybe he can move MacDonalds money.

i didn't say he is. Pretty sure I said 16/17.

He'll never be ready until he shows that he's ready so don't put a date on it because he isn't ready.

What don't you understand? You think you can project? You can't project. Failure is the only option until there's another option.

It appears Gagner and Vinny will stay with Flyers. They weren't bought out. Flyers still could move both in deals.

I think the original argument was 4 years at like 4M per.
I could deal with 2 years just fine personally...not at 4 per though

- nails

No.. that was the irrational post calling that a steal.

2-3 years at 3-3.5 isnt a bad contract.. and its where I see him falling..

It would give us a young productive d-man until we get a few of the youngers guy up..

What about Semin on a Brad Richards type deal. 1 year @ 1 mil.

The argument is that I don't think he should be signed for more than 2 (or, "a couple") of years. After that, depending on his production and the development of some of our younger players, re-evaluate.
- jmatchett383

I don't think 3 seasons is all that big a deal but I wouldn't be upset if Del Zotto signed a 2 year deal.

Right. But MDZ is basically an offensive defenseman who plays...let's say "somewhat passable" defensive hockey. I'm hoping that Ghost can start to evolve into him after 2 years. And really, having more than 1 of those types of players is not ideal. So why not sign him for 2 years, and then evaluate where you are with him as well as Ghost/Provorov/etc. and go from there, as opposed to locking yourself in for 3+ years?

I see only Morin as really a chance to make the big club.

I believe Gostisbehre will need some time due to the knee injury.

Hagg they wanted to see become more consistant and engaged more so I think he starts in the AHL too.

- J35Bacher

I dont see why Morin would have a better chance over Hagg or Ghost coming out of juniors? Hextall is quoted as saying he's not discounting Ghost making the team out of camp. Didn't make such a direct comment about anyone else when asked.

I would be real happy with a 2 year deal.

What I REALLY want is the cap space in two years. the only D man they are on the hook for in two years is Amac. If would be nice to be able to choose whether to keep DZ at that point or see if the kids are ready.
RJ, PEB, VdV, are all done as well.

Im basing everything I say off of what Hextall has said/done so far. He is not going to rush a d-man into the NHL out of necessity. So signing MDZ for a couple of seasons really is not the end of the world.

Signing him to a one year deal might work.. but if he has a very productive year, we are gonna need to hope a guy is ready to jump in and fill what he did, or look for another stop gap.. That is why 2-3 years of MDZ might be the best bet.

Like I said, I could live with 2 years, but I think 3 is pushing it too far. I'd actually prefer a 1-year deal, but 2 would be okay, as long as he doesn't want more than $3.25M per.

Semin was waived, what about signing him for a cheap contract and try putting him on g's LW? Not sure if A) he'd even take a cheap contract (might be all he can get) and B) if he can even play on his off wing. He was scoring at a PPG pace as recently as 3 years ago.

Could be an option.

Philadelphia keeps Sam Gagner. His skill set should be better used in the Flyers system.

I am basing it off that Gostisbehre is coming of a torn ACL and will probably need some time in AHL. Hagg they wanted to see more consistency and him more engaged. Morin is also physically ready for the NHL.

Also at the bottom I said it could change if guys play incredible. Just think Morin's role and skill set allow him to be NHL ready.
