Franson nearly went to arbitration last season, but they avoided it and he signed a one year 3.3 million dollar contract..
- jak521

And I believe that Cody Franson is a better overall player than a mid-6 winger masquerading as a defenseman.

I really don't want to see more than 3M AAV committed to MDZ.
1 year @3M would be nice
2 years @ 5.5-6.5 I could stomach

outside that, I let someone offer sheet him

- nails

No one is going to offer sheet him.

He'll eventually go to arbitration.

Alright, we talked about who we'd like to draft for months! There is zero talk about who they'd like to acquire. We're less then a day away, people!! Today's Christmas Eve!!

Richards speculation:

Edit: Interesting quote:

So in that article there are links to some twitter conversations talking about the cap ramifications. Some of the comments have the flyers taking on a penalty along with the Kings. Can anyone confirm if that would actually happen?

I believe that would only be the case if he was bought out, which didn't happen. Could be wrong, but I believe that's the difference.

The draft and recent deals have gone over well for most of us, if not all of us. I think the Grossmann/Pronger for Gagner is a good move, especially if we keep Gagner. However, I'm not so sure Hextall should be so quick to re-sign players such as Nick Schultz, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and 32 year old unproven NHL rookie Yevgeni Medvedev. I think Scott Laughton can hand a 4th line center role, while working his way up. Patrick Sharp wasn't hurt by this is his first couple of NHL season. We also have Samuel Morin who could also earn a spot on the but these premature signing make Morin's chances more difficult. With two more seasons left on Umberger's deal, I wouldn't allow pride to be the reason why Umberger isn't bought out if we cannot move him. It was a bad deal. I'm also hoping we can retain Ryan White.

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
UFA-Gagner-Simmonds
Read-Couturier-Schenn
Vandevelde-Laughton-White

MacDonald-Streit
Del Zotto-Schenn
Morin-Gudas

Mason
UFA

Still a far from perfect roster but many of us expect more of the same anyway.

Medvedev?

I'd give Del Zotto between 3.5 and 4 million for 3 to 4 years. He's 25 though and wouldn't blame him if he'd like to get less term for possible UFA.

Sustr resigning for 2 yrs 2.9 mil total.

Why does our 3rd pairing pylon make 2.5x as much as him on deal that was signed years ago? And some still consider it a good deal

It's my bad but I posted the line up I would have been comfortable with if we weren't so quick to sign Bellemare, Schultz and Medvedev. I apologize.

after one season, I want nothing to do with 3-4 years. Especially by that time, you are expecting to have at least 4 of your own picked D men in the line-up

so your are speaking with an obvious bias against MDZ.

Despite how you feel, MDZ was our #2 all purpose d-man. He does- in fact- do a lot more than just roam around trying to score.

Seeing all of that, he is going to get a good raise, whether its through arbitration or not, we will see.

How much time did we give Steve Mason? I'm not arguing your point, Del Zotto would be a gamble at 3 to 4 years I admit. However, if he plays to standards, I think that deal could be steal.

Flyers are not subject to any penalties because they signed the deal before the new CBA was done.

Yes, I'm biased against him. But even still, I just don't think he's worth more than $2.5M a year. I can't help the way I feel towards his play.

I was also biased against Rinaldo because I thought he was a liability. I guess Hexy got scammed by Sweeney, only getting a 3rd back. Should have held out for a few first rounders.

-Not sure if Cousins is subject to waivers yet; I think he may be? If that is the case, he should have a roster spot simply because we shouldn't loose a player with that upside for no reason. Also operating under the assumption Vinny is gone.

-AMac contract is really killing us. Staring at this, I'd have no problem just playing Schultz every game if he weren't on this team. He needs to have a huge season.

Not to mention that he wasn't even close to Flyers property when the Kings took action.

I don't see how that could be possible. We wiped that booger of a contract on the Kings. That's their problem.

I think Mason's year was better than MDZs year, but I get where you are coming frm.
If MDZ were to take anther step forward, then yes, 3/4 years at 3-3.5AAV would be worth it.
But, I really want to see it again.
I wish he would sign 1 year at 2.5 and prove it. that is almost a 100% raise.

I only see a back up goalie coming out of the UFA ranks to join the Flyers at this point.

I'd take Enroth happily and be done, even if it means they might be another lottery team next season again.

2017-18 and the future, look out. Next year not so much.
