It may very well be that he asked to be. Don't forget how reluctant he was about coming with Nolan last year in the first place.

He wasn't.

Dan Bylsma and Arturs Irbe could not come to an agreement so Irbe will not be on Bylsma staff.

The Sabres head coach was on WGR Sports Radio 550 with Howard Simon and me and he said, "We've moved on from Arturs Irbe and are interviewing other candidates."

It's not known if Irbe didn't want to stay or if Bylsma didn't want to hire him. I can tell you Irbe is very loyal to Ted Nolan and wasn't looking for a job. He only came to the Sabres as their goaltending coach because Nolan wanted him to.

Irbe has one year left on his contract.

From Paul Hamilton.

Sounds like he wanted to either work for Nolan or go back to Latvia.

You mean Talbot who is free to walk after next season? They traded a higher pick for a guy they thought was the best available tender with multiple years and an RFA year left on his deal. People can't seem to get this through their heads.

I thought this was a pretty sad draft for Buffalo! I like the Kane and O'rielly deal but to trade the 31st to Ottawa had to be the dumbest move I had every seen at this years draft. Buffalo could have traded the 31st for Cam Talbot the better of the 2 goalies and would NOT have had to take on Legwound as I call him and his 3M cap hit doing Ottawa a huge favor!!! Something smells awfully fishy here!!!

Two weeks ago I was saying lehner was better than talbot or lack. Murray paid a little extra for lower age and a way better contract, two things which have value in itself.

Agreed, so when Lehner is 26 and the Sabres are becoming legit contenders Lehner is entering his prime...

I still don't like giving up the 1st but who was added this weekend is fantastic.

Sabres sign Sekera and Oduya?

I really don't know if Sekera is someone on Murray's radar or not.

And the "experts" have us as having a great draft day.... I'll take their word for it over an anonymous poster on HockeyBuzz.

No offense.

But that 21st pick!!!!!!!

Is Lehner still a question mark? Sure. But any of the guys out there were. As Homie kept saying, Lack and Talbot could end up just rentals because there was no guarantee either would resign here. So while you may be able to give up a lower pick, you may be giving it up for only 1 year of service.

I look at what was traded and who is now a Sabre:

Gone:

21st pick
31st pick
Girgorenko
Zadorov
Compher

Here:
Eichel
Ryan O'Reilly
Robin Lehner
Jamie McGinn
David Legwand

So really Legwand is just for cap reasons but that's still a good haul in the Sabres favor.

It's tomorrow, but you need to waive a player before you buy him out.
