So what does everybody think about our picks 2-7? Hits/misses, hidden gems, projects/long shots, you get the point.

Sounds like Murray wanted a different goalie...
- rcostel77

I would have done 31 for Lack but in the end, what's done is done. You have to credit to Murray, he has a plan and he is sticking to it. We are definitely a harder team to play against.

Regarding trades, it amazes me, all of us spend a lot of time discussing who "won" and who "lost" trade "x". I think Regier probably "won" many more trades than he lost and where did that get us? In the end, the only "win" that I am concerned about is winning the Stanley Cup. After the last few days, I think we have moved significantly closer - but we are still obviously a number of years away.

I hope I am wrong about Lehner and he can bounce back from his concussion. I imagine he will be incredibly motivated to prove Ottawa and others wrong about him.

They reached a bit at 51, but not having a 3rd rounder meant in my eyes they really liked the kid.

Adding defensemen was huge IMO. There is a good balance of forwards and defensemen in the prospect pool now.

The only thing they didn't do is draft a goalie which I am surprised by.

Absolutely - the talk of who may have won a trade completely misses the point. As TM said, his goal is to make the team better and not "win" trades.

Wow. The Leafs asking price to do it for them must have been extraordinary.

If Eichel is as good as advertised, it's possible with O'Reilly that we could seriously compete for a cup after this season. If you look at how players comparable to Eichel (Stamkos, Kane, Tavares, mainly other #1 or #2 picks) perform than he should be a bonafide #1 center in year two.

With that being said, someone like Oduya needs to be priority #1. He is a great skater who never gets tired, he will still be effective until probably 36 or 37 years old. A 4 year deal would be fine.

Only issue is he isn't a great #2, he's a better fit on the 2nd pair with Bogosian.

If we are able to sign someone like Beleskey, can Foligno ++ land us a top 2 defensemen ?

It would take way more than that to land a top 2 defenseman. Like a #1c, almost everyone is looking for one. That's why it was hard to part with Zadorov - he might grow into one.

I was glad to see them take so many defensemen too. But this kid at 51 seems to be a beast and you just can't teach athleticism. I think he'll be a nice piece in 3-4 years. I hope that Goregio Esteban kid makes it someday just for his name alone.

Foligno a 2016 first round maybe...

But like I have said before, I would send Reinhart, 2016 first, Foligno for OEL and call it a day:

OEL Risto
Bogosian Oduya
Pysyk Gorges
Weber

Kane ROR Ennis
Moulson Eichel Girgensons
McGinn Larsson Gionta
Deslauriers Legwand FA

or sign Frolik

Kane ROR Ennis
Moulsons Eichel Frolik
McGinn Girgensons Gionta
Deslauriers Legwand Larsson

What about going after Gio ?

He'd be 31 or 32 I think.

Their future top 2 is obviously Hamilton and Brodie, and Russell is no sl9uch. With them drafting Kylington I think they are gearing up to let him walk if he wants too much

Good info here Stripes.
Reading back this morning I was shocked by, IMO of the rather significant over-reaction to the moves by GMTM.
Will the Sabres win each deal, maybe not, did they get better...absolutely.
After 17 years of paralysis by analysis, I am glad to see a guy at the top with balls and conviction running the show.
I too think he "overpaid" for Lehner when looking strictly at his numbers...which are average by a young goalie...but when one considers the other factors, combined with air be as his coach...I'm hopeful we have our starter who will be Obote average at a relatively low cost that fits perfectly with our timeline.

- IonSabres

Think of it as a 3 team deal.

Buff

ROR
Lehner
McGinn
Legwand

Ott

#21

Colorado

Zads
Grigs
Compher
#31

Also Pominville and a 4td has now gotten you Hackett, Larsson, Karabacek, ROR, McGinn.
