Can we afford to pay all those guys 7mil + on their next contracts?
BC there's potential for all of them to outscore ROR
And Risto & Bogo will get paid
And if Lehner ends up being the #1 Murray says, he's getting 6mil a year too

I'm more looking down the line I guess

- jdfitz77

Just because they may score more than ROR doesnt mak them better.....but youre right, if they pan out like we hope, we cant keep all of them, or it would be very hard at least.

Lehner we have for a while though, and worse case scenario, he turns into a number one, we flip him, and plug in another goalie.

That's what they don't want. They wont two number 1's. You know the saying, if you have two #1's you dont have any. They didn't trade a first so Lehner can split games. Let him play 60 games, get in a groove and see what we got in him. That's what I think is going to happen.

Right now...
Neither are a #1
Let them fight it out & we'll see who deserves it!

It's still an excellent draft regardless of what Murray does. It isn't like we're losing guys because of jammed fax machines.

Lmoa! Thx for that! All I can say is , "Bob Freakin Corkum!"

I am the biggest ROR fan on here
I'm sure u remember me driving EVERYONE crazy saying we should trade for him 3yrs ago
But u know how agents work
ROR gets 22goals, and Ennis has 25 in his contract year, the agent for Ennis is gonna demand ROR $$$
Same goes for the rest of our good players

I admit, it's a good problem to have
But still a concern

Simple.
I'd love for Murray to stop with his penchant for overpaying in every deal he makes.
Not only in the future will it cost us, but it may already have.
Who is to say?
The "experts"?
My dilemma is not all of the players he is acquiring, my dilemma is the amount he has been giving up.
I would like for once to feel after a Murray deal that the opposing GM has overpaid.
Will this ever happen? I may wait forever it seems for that.
Not to mention the irritating Ottawa love affair.
Lehner is average, perhaps a shade above it.
He was taken behind the woodshed in that deal in my opinion.
I simply want the over payments to cease and desist in a sport terminology way.

- BuffaloHardHat

When the Sabres give up the best player in the trade you will then see the other team overpay. Of course Murray has to give up more to get the better player. That's like basic economics.

IF
Ullmark or whoever developed into one by then
All our goalie prospects were inconsistent this year
That's why I'd feel more comfortable if we got Gibson, or drafted a top ranked guy

Contracts aren't based solely on offensive numbers. Have you seen the bridge deals all these young players have been signing? Toffoli, Stone, Zbinejad, Johnson... They are favorable to their teams cap situations. I have no problems about Ryan O' Reilly asking for 7.5M... like I said earlier, 7.5M has become the new 5M. Especially when the elite players are starting to get 9-10M+

Trading guys we pick in the top 50 is a hell of a lot different than what u can expect from defensemen after the 2nd round
Not even close to the same thing

- jdfitz77

I think the statistics would say that anyone from Round 2 to 7 have about the same chance ay playing 200 NHL games.

Any trade he makes could be viewed that way because he was the highest bidder. The whole point of acquiring the amount of picks/prospects that we have lately is for this very reason. To turn the quantity into quality. They've been preaching this for 3 years now so I don't get why you're so upset about what he's done. They can only have 50 pro contracts at a time and the only way to not lose these guys for nothing is to package them together for something better, which is what Murray did.
- HonkFortheGoose

Bc trading a 2nd for Lehner is better than trading a 1st
BC trading our picks for a #1 defenseman is better than trading for a top6 guy we will have to overpay when we already have 5 of our top6 set
Etc

Everyone that is hung up on giving up a first for Lehner, just re-imagine it this way:

Zadorov, Grigs, Compher and the 21st for ROR and McGinn
31st for Lehner and Legwand.

Now move on.

You must be referring to Just our prospects?

Its a bit early to know for certain about them, but you never know.

Just ask Ottawa how it worked out with Stone (5th Rd) and Hoffman (5th Rd)

P.S. Murray was involved in scouting them I think

- MEBSabresFAN

Ya, of course
I'm just stating my opinion from what I've seen so far
Bailey & Baptiste i see having top9 potential
The others...
Big ? For me

Although u make a good point too
There's a reason Murray is a GM & not me!

Good point
I did think we'd have to give up 21 for ROR...
But if we did, I'm guessing we wouldn't have had to give up Compher (who I REALLY like)... He's a future Abdelkader

It's also not what we have up, but what comes with them
ROR has a huge price tag IF he signs here
Lehner is a HUGE risk to become a #1

Can't deny that

And legwand & mcginn are inconsequential for me
I'd rather play Foligno & Larsson in their roles

Wow really? And if he does he does who cares. Sometimes I feel people would rather have a stocked prospect pool than actually win hockey games. Get over these prospects that may or may not even see a single game in the NHL.

This. It is the same mentality that paralyzed Regier. Never mind that we may have done very well in a trade. People we traded might also do well elsewhere and we can't have that.

All you people complaining we made trades are the same people that wanted us to get better faster. Well we did. You guys are not comprehending that we didn't trade prospects for 30 year old rentals or over the hill players. We traded prospects for 23-24 year olds. Those are basically guys only a couple years older than our "prospects" except they are all star/Olympic caliber players. murray did very VERY well this weekend.

I never once said a damn thing about getting better ASAP
We aren't winning a Cup THIS year...
Or even next
We née to be thinking about 3-10yrs down the road
That's our window
IMO

I think that's the point you are missing. Trading away 18 year old and picks isn't mortgaging the future because the guys we got back are only 23 and 24. Once again, other than Zadorov we didn't give up anything of ridiculous value. I loved Compher but a) you have to give to get and b) he is at best a bottom 6 guy later on because of our talent. I'll give up pieces to get very good players all day long.

Isn't this the start of what we always wanted? Big, fast, young, mean, 2-way? Is anyone going to be thinking of Joel Armia and Brendan Lemieux when we see Kane flying up and down the ice?
