trade for joy bow and sign martin

d is set for the next 3 years

- homiedclown

Martin wants 5 years, at least its what I read in the pitt blog. At 34, I don't want to be handing him a 5 year contract.

I rather have NHL talent than more prospects. Boston wouldnt have traded us Hamilton, they had a better offer for him, and turned it down since the team was from the East.

Lehner, I agree was too much, but him and Gibson, have by far, the highest ceiling out of all the goalies that where available. Rather have Lehner at 21 than Samsonov

- Mentalorgasm5

Ya, good point about Hamilton
Anaheim came out n said they weren't trading Gibson (who's the guy I wanted all along), but then they traded for Khudobin.
Makes me think they might trade Gibson

I'll give them Foligno for him
And one of our 3rds next year

I'd feel really good about a Lehner-Gibson tandem
One of them should push the other to be really good

That's what they don't want. They wont two number 1's. You know the saying, if you have two #1's you dont have any. They didn't trade a first so Lehner can split games. Let him play 60 games, get in a groove and see what we got in him. That's what I think is going to happen.

Get one more Vet on D like TM says he wants and I think we can compete for a playoff spot.

I think the big question is does Reinhart make the team next year.

It's too bad the Sabres couldn't.

That would be hilarious

I think they did that so gibson can be in the AHL next year. Give him another year to develop, and have anton back uo andersen.

I don't like the idea of two starters either. Most goalies don't do well in that kind of situation. It's all about repetition and gaining confidence. Can't do that if you're splitting time.

I could be wrong, but I think there's a rule that says a team can't claim a player they just traded

I think whether or not Reinhart is here will depend entirely on how he looks at development camp and training camp. Too early to speculate right now.

It's going to be hard to fill those two d spots for next year. We need a top 2 and a top 4. There is enough out there for the 4 spot, but nothing for the top pairing.

Ristolainen ???
Bogosian ????
pysyk gorges
Weber

Anybody have an opinion on Chad Ruhwedal?

Is he an AHL lifer?

32 NHL Games player for a historically bad Sabres Squad but comes out with an EVEN (0) Plus Minus.
He's 24-25
Will he be kept for injury call ups?
Is it his small size thats the problem, he does skate well and pass smoothly. Just wondering.

This can be applied to the assets we moved as well. Maybe 1 out of five make it. And in returned we acquired more established players that have a better chance of making a difference.

Trading guys we pick in the top 50 is a hell of a lot different than what u can expect from defensemen after the 2nd round
Not even close to the same thing

The Aves, Sakic Quote,

"Grigorenko is a big guy at 6-foot-3 and he played for Patrick," Sakic said. "He's got a lot of hockey sense. Our power play last year wasn't the best and we feel Grigorenko and Soderberg should help."

It really isnt. About 20% of first round picks a mound to anything, and when you remove the top 5 picks. The percentage significantly drops.

There's plenty of players still and I get the feeling that Murray has already done most of what he wanted to. I don't think there's any reason to panic about any of this.
- HonkFortheGoose

I wouldn't say I'm pannicing
It's just not a good thing to overpay in every trade

For Kane, that makes sense
For ROR, debatable
For Lehner, dumb

It should be situational
But (to me anyways) it seems like Murray is overpaying on just about every major deal he makes
That's a concern for me

I think he'll have to turn some heads to make it next year. If he's ready, great. If not, no need to rush him.

I agree, nothing against Samson, but the management has more options with ROR and Legwand to ease him in, if he excels during training camp, ok, but His number one attribute is his hockey sense and ease at which he makes plays, that isn't going away if he plays 30-40 games with the big club and some down in the A.

U think there's a close percentage between pick 31 & where Compher was picked & guys picked in the 4th-7th rounds?
That's insane

If say 20% of 2nd rounders hit,
It's prob about 1% from the 4th round on

Love the Kane trade, Love the ROR trade, Lehner trade not thrilled with but we will see.

He doesnt over pay, we are just used to DR doing nothing unless he can rob a team, Murray wants a player he does something about it. I like that. And no, he won't win every trade, but at least he's making moves and bringing in front line players.

A much smaller percentage than 20% of 2nd rounders hit. Less than 1% of rounds 3-7 hit.

It's why I was pointing out at the beginningof the 13/14 season, that even though the sabres have good prospects, that doesn't mean they will do anything in the NHL. I remember when I said one of ristolainen or Zadorov will be a bust, and people jumped on me.

So let me get this straight. Let's keep drafting prospects while only 1 in 3 are true nhl players...no team builds just through the draft. They need to make good trades.

Murray did EXACTLY what he said he was going to do. Move prospects for NHL players under 25 that are further along in their development and careers.

Trading picks, the ton that we had and not the space to sign them in a package for players was absolutely the right thing to do.

Any trade he makes could be viewed that way because he was the highest bidder. The whole point of acquiring the amount of picks/prospects that we have lately is for this very reason. To turn the quantity into quality. They've been preaching this for 3 years now so I don't get why you're so upset about what he's done. They can only have 50 pro contracts at a time and the only way to not lose these guys for nothing is to package them together for something better, which is what Murray did.
