Wasn't a great trade in my estimation.

Thomas Greiss 89 career GP with an adjusted 5v5 save % of .932

Robin Lehner 87 career GP at .922

One cost 21st overall

One is UFA & will sign under 2M

Were also shoehorned into taking Legwand.

Certainly not the kind of trade that will derail Buffalo's promising track towards winning again but also one that seems rushed and not well thought out.

Still, he was not worth a 21st overall pick in such a deep draft!
- Sabresfan88

In the last 14 or 15 drafts there have only been 2 or 3 players picked 21st that have amounted to anything... Rask is the best of that bunch, imo (2005).

And that's not what I said, I said I don't want to give anything else up. We did GIVE a pick. Ottawa GAVE a goalie. I didn't say we gifted it to them for free, so no need to put words in my mouth.

The point of the statement was I'd rather not make any more deals today.

- Zschalberg

You said you didn't want to give anything else away. Giving things away implies that you didn't get anything in return.

However, it does not mean you can give away picks, just because you got them easily!

- Sabresfan88

he didn't give away his pick

he had 4 holes coming into today for next season

top 6 winger
2 top 4 d men
starting goalie

he filled one of those slots and got a decent rental for this season

Pssssst......Psssssst...........yeah you.....the one banging their head against the wall. Here is what we recieved for Thomas Vanek, momma

- Islanders 1st Round Draft Choice

-Isladers 2nd Round Draft Choice

-Rented Matt Moulson

P.S. Try to figure out which one of these pieces was the MAIN ingredient in that trade, I'm not trying to be condescending, but when you call people childish names, then tell them they are flat out wrong.....you just look a bit silly.........

So lets just wrap this up with,

Thomas Vanak (5th Over all) player taken for .............. Robin Lehner, & a late 2nd Round pick

- MEBSabresFAN

Well, you're wrong so keep winking all you want

There is still nothing to justify giving a 21st overall pick for a goalie, in a year that there are lots of goalies out there, that could have been had for much much cheaper.
- Sabresfan88

Cool thing about opinions is we all have them (and they vary).

The guy whose opinion matters thought there was justification, so that outweighs any of ours.

In the end, it's a sport and there are bigger and better things that have happened already this morning.

If only it wasn't about 115 with the heat index I'd enjoy some time outside..

You really need to stop with the "momma" thing. I am not anyone's mother. And I sure as hell would not want to be yours. It's not funny, cute or anything of the such. Keep it up. Each time I see it from now on I'm reporting it. I'm sure both NF and Stash will get sick of having to see it flagged and will do something about it.

Yeah.
However, this a much deeper draft than 70-80% of those mentioned drafts.
But, whatever.

Ottawa had so much faith in Lehner that they signed O'Conner, and resigned Hammond.

Watch Ottawa now move up to pick 3 and get Marner or Hanifin

Greiss is also 4 years older and doesn't have the size that Murray seems to like.

All the exclamation points, "know it all" winks and cap locked words doesn't make anyone on here the next NHL GM.

It makes you look foolish and childish.

Couldn't you say this about any team? What team hasn't made a string of awful trades
- Sabresfan-365

You know it wasn't a great trade but it wasn't nearly as bad as some of you make it. Moulson wasn't getting resigned. He wasn't part of the plan(thankfully was never a fan). Vanek was borderline elite when he played with us. Snow took a chance and Vanek didn't sign(now we are thankful for it at the time it sucked honestly).

Half this very thread panned Snow for selecting Dal Cole with the 5th pick last draft exclaiming " a 20th overall in the 2015 draft is almost as good as a top 5 in 2014". Posts like these were the norm followed up by the Islanders are definitely a lottery team thinking the Sabres would have 2 in the top 5. Your blogger himself was part of this parade.

In reality everything kind of worked out in the end. Huge Dal Cole fan.
