yup. sure seems like rutherford is under some pressure to win now.

a scenario that could lead him to overpaying with future assets for immediate results - again.

What "future assets"?
They traded everything away already

Toronto has no need at center if there isn't a Kessel
- the_eye

Perhaps, but they don't really have any C in their system outside of Nylander and aren't likely to get one at this draft either...but there are a number of good wingers at the top of the draft. Plus, O'Reilly is a much more complete player than Kessel and much more inline with what Babcock likes on his roster.

Leafs already have 3 2nd line centers. last thing they need is one that's paid 7.5 million for 8 years.

the cupboards are nearly bare.

kapanen, some young d-men, draft picks.

would basically leave the cupboards empty to acquire kessel - will rutherford make the same mistake burke did?

Pittsburgh has made an offer for Kessel!

To Toronto: David Perron, Ben Lovejoy, and Pittsburgh's 1st round pick in 2015

To Pittsburgh: Phil Kessel, William Nylander,
and a lifetime supply of KFC chicken for Phil

why aren't they getting one this draft? Marner and Strome are projected to be high end prospects.
without Kessel the Leafs won't need ROR

Well, I think O'Reilly can be a very good fit at #1 C in Babcock's system in TOR. Outside of maybe Nylander, who is very unproven, the rest of the TOR centers are useless...

Strome will probably be gone, Marner, if there, is more of a winger.

Rutherford is offering picks he doesn't have now?

And everybody knows kessel prefers burgers.

Kadri and Bozak are both solid 2nd line centers and Holland could be a serviceable 2nd line center in the near future.

With O'Reilly the leafs would be in the same boat as they've been for a long time. A good second line center playing up in the line up where he doesn't belong but the only difference is O'Reilly will be paid like an elite 1st line center. People are always talking about how bad Kessels contract is. O'Reilly's is going to be much worse.

What? Kadri and Bozak suck. They are 2nd line C on TOR because the Leafs suck...on any decent team they are 3rd or 4th line C. Plus they are way overpaid...

I think you haven't seen O'Reilly play much, nor do you have any idea of the type of players Babcock likes on his teams. O'Reilly with Babcock would be a terrific fit. JVR + O'Reilly combination is the start to a very strong, and young, line.

Oh please, every blog Ryan wilson puts up ends up with your fan base trying to figure out who would be stupid enough to take Sutter.

maybe so, but Kadri would still be the second line center
and he's not overpaid

bozak is a natural 3c.

kadri has top 6 offensive talent; but needs to do more with it.

O'Reilly is looking for 7.5 million a year on the next contract.
Anyone who signs him for that crazy money is going to regret it quickly.

he'd be 3rd line on your team, but look who's in front of him
how is that useless
