Since the talk of trading Reinhart was the motif of most of the day I would offer him for pick 3, 4 or 5 for Marner, Ivan Provorov or Hanifin if one of those teams was willing to swap straight up.

I would then have no problem trading 21, Zads, + for ROR if they picked Provorov or Hanifin but they had better talk to his agent and get a deal in principle set before they consumate the deal.

Same for some reason strome doesn't do it for me. I think Provorov may be the steal of the draft.
Philly could be dangerous if mason can stay healthy and the sign a d and draft him

but a deal in principle is basically nothing. Agent could say "yea no worries tim we'll do 6x6" and then on july 1st come back and say "yea about that, we actually ant 8x8."

Well if the Sabres are trading for ROR and giving up big assets they better offer what he wants to sign him or it's a total waste.

Strome seems like Reinhart 2.0 a bit to me. Seems like a better goal scorer but he doesn't excite me much, needs to work on skating. I bet he'll be solid.

I can't imagine where this would be an issue. I'm sure we know what he is asking for and we must be willing to give it to him. I would imagine a quick conversation would be allowed before the trade is made. I thought that ROR has the same agent as E Kane and Murray is on good terms with him.

That's my point though, why put yourself in a position where the agent will have you bent over a table? It's awful business, can't imagine they'd be okay with that.

If rumors are correct and they really want him it seems they have no problem with it, know how much he'll cost and are willing to pay it.

Amazing how things change. A few years ago we begged Darcy to do something, now I find myself begging murray to do nothing

I think you may be underestimating bogosian then. But you make a fair point. I'm not really worried about the money. Good teams make it work. I'd like to keep both I just see Pysyk as a more likely trade piece
- MCGUIZZY

At this point Bogosian is more accomplished, but I would rather trade him than Pysyk.

Bogosian is not a smart hockey player, Pysyk is

Mike Babcock basically agreed to sign here.

Any trade where he isn't extended is a huge risk

I think I'd rather not trade for ROR but I do like my scenario but in reality would one of those teams swap the 2nd pick in last years draft for a top 5 pick in this years draft?

I would rather just not trade for ROR and try to move up from 21, get a goalie with 31 and a prospect.

I'd like another top 6 forward but not sure what assets to use besides Grigs.

If Mike Milbury had been our GM for the last 15 years, Murray would be making more people nervous IMO

Here's the trade:

McCabe, Grigo and 21 for ROR. Conditions added: if extension not signed w ROR, Avs send Sabres the rights to Calvin Pickard and Spencer Martin.

Neither of those goalies are worth dealing both grigo and 21.

He made one big trade besides selling off Miller which was a good trade. Not sure where the Milbury comparison comes from besides unsubstantiated rumors.

No, but the chance to sign ROR is, and they're pretty good consolation prizes if the signing doesn't come through.

Not comparing him to Milbury, just saying that if we had an aggressive GM that made a ton of mistakes previously, I think people would want to cool it with all the blockbuster ROR deals.

Darcy won most of his trades, but didn't pull the trigger on some he probably should have. With Murray, I bet he will come up short on some, and hopefully hit home runs on others

Gotcha, like most GM's do. Except Darcy had to win every damn trade he ever made.

But it's not even the main concern. Im sure they'd have no trouble signing ROR, but acquiring him with no official extension in place makes it easier for the agent to screw you into signing a really dumb contract.

I'm not sure signing him would be a given.

What 25 year old would not want to be the best UFA out there ?

The guy who just got a blank cheque from Pegula, so that they don't look dumb for acquiring a guy and letting him walk a year later.

That's the whole point of the conditions. RORs agent can only screw the Sabres if the lose everything if the deal can't be done. With these alternate rights, Murray can look the agent squarely in the eye and say "we don't lose if you walk. We still take value even if you don't sign."
