McNally becomes a free agent Aug. 15. Benning says #Canucks have other young offensive D-men like Subban and Hutton who are ahead of him.

wow. silly contract demands?

- hillbillydeluxe

I honestly think he plans on staying in uni a few more years and hasn't really shown any real desire to be an nhl player. The year off plus his commitment to harvard hurt his development imo.

I added this to that first tweet-
Brad Ziemer @BradZiemer .
Further McNally: Benning acknowledged concerns about McNally's defensive game. Also suffered a serious knee injury last season #Canucks

I heard Benning in a radio interview during the Comets run say something about having seen McNally scoring off the rush in the regular season but wasn't going to be on the Utica play off roster and was headed to Vancouver for summer training. I can't remember if he came out and said it was conditioning issues or hinted at it.

Sounded like JB was going to sign the kid, now the kid is going to be ufa? Was it the knee? Something show up when he went to Vancover? Or is it all contract?

No clue - you may be correct. Wish we could see how many contracts we had available and if this is the case and we have close to 50 then we did we give stewart a pro contract

He has a ntc. Even if you can find an interested team that he would be willing to waive for, they're probably not going to be competing with anyone for his services. I think that he is probably worth a second but I think that we would be lucky to get a third.
- CubanBuffet

Yea I see it the same way. And TBH I don't have a lot of faith in Benning to glean full value in a trade where he's handcuffed. Not to say that I dislike Benning, but negotiations haven't been his strong suit thus far in his tenure.

I'd do it straight up. Chance to grab a 1D in Hanifin/Provorov. If we add then I wouldn't be happy unless it was a vet being shipped out

Then we'd be short a young top 6 C on an ELC. Gaunce won't ever be a top 6 and McCann is still a pretty big maybe until he starts playing in the NHL.

Cut off a left hand to gain a right foot.

Hanifin would have been a pretty sweet addition to the rebuild though...

I think Canucks feel ok on the D . Prospects, young guys now ready to step in . I do think they will go after Carlo though, much to Nuckers approval

Our C depth is much better than our D depth WRT prospects. Gaunce, Cassels, McCann could all possibly play top 6 though it's unlikely and the former two will likely be bottom 6 if anything. I think it's unlikely that Horvat ever anchors a 1st line and I think it's harder to draft top pairing d-men. We can draft someone like White and add to our centre depth this year if it becomes a concern. Maybe even Merkley becomes available and he has 1C upside
I like:
White
Baertschi
Virtanen
McCann
Shinkaruk
Kassian

Hanifin
Pedan
Corrado
Subban

A hell of a lot better than:
Horvat
Baertschi
Virtanen
McCann
Shinkaruk
Kassian

Chabot
Pedan
Corrado
Subban

I love Bo, but I just think it makes too much sense not to if it's a 1 for 1.
If only so that we can trade Sbisa
Edit: it's not going to happen anyways so have no fear

#9 in a weaker draft vs #3 in a strong draft

besides you can go see Bo when they move to Seattle

Both of those cores would be fortunate to ever make a playoffs. We need some serious picks/prospects to be added.

I think it's more likely than not they asked for more than just Bo. Just a guess.

I don't know that you can look at it like that as once the draft is over the deck chairs shuffle (and I also think the 2013 draft was quite strong). But to me if you have the potential to grab a cornerstone player at the expense of a very good player then you should do it. I'm not concerned with how it would affect us in the standings because we're not going to win anyways. Also, think about how long it took Victor Hedman to hit his stride. I think if you have the chance then you draft the 1D first because you don't want to play catchup

Absolutely. And Benning won't trade Horvat so it's not realistic but it's fun to explore

I wouldn't be too concerned. The same site proposed a trade between Colorado and Toronto. ROR for Bozak and Gardiner.

seems weird that they wouldn't flip him for even a 7th?
