The real pressure leading up to the draft, free agency, and generally the look of the team next season lies with Lawrence Gilman. |

They'll trade Bieksa and sign Franson
with Franson, Tanev, Edler you have 3 guys out of your top four that still have lots of years of serviceability in them.
Hopefully that buys them some time to find some better options... that isn't exactly a championship caliber defense - Mungo
Signing Franson will make you long for Bieksa's stellar defensive play. |

He isn't getting lowballed. The market is set by supply and demand. There is a tonne of supply and limited demand.
At this point, Lack has proved to be nothing more than an average starting goalie. A really likeable, average starting goalie. - KB3Point0
If the market's not there, don't trade him. I doesn't have to happen at the draft. |

It's been so long since the canucks 'won' a trade. The only time our team wins is when we trade with guys like the Mad Mike's (Milbury or Keenan). Thise types of GMs are long gone.
Our team will need to be built through the draft. - bloatedmosquito
Luongo (acquiring, not trading away)
Ehrhoff
Kassian (hopefully)
Dorsett
Higgins
Isn't like we've been taken to school on too many trades in that time. We just haven't made many trades of substance, which has probably been the bigger issue. Hanging on to players too long, lack of player movement, etc. |

Signing Franson will make you want to have Bieksa back for his stellar defensive play. - Canuckleafer
I don't understand the Franson boner some people have. He'll make Sbisa look like a Norris candidate. |

They HAVE to trade one of them before the end of the summer. Keeping all 3 is not an option. Lack's value will do nothing but drop after the draft.
It doesn't have to happen at the draft, but that is when they will get the best value. If they wait then teams looking for goalies will start to sign UFAs and others will acquire guys via trade. The less potential trade partners the more teams will be able to lowball us. |

Who was negotiating with Sbisa and Dorsett? JB or Gilman? |

They both struggle in the defensive end... but i'd take Franson over Bieksa.... he can actually move the puck up well. Bieksa is way too casual with the puck and takes forever to move the puck up ice. Plus Franson would be a big upgrade for our pp! |

Knew he was the capologist, but thought he negotiated contracts too. Back when MG was here and Gilman was hired, thought MG said he dealt/negotiated with Gilman when he was an agent and Gilman was with the Yotes. |

Would you take Franson at 5+? 6? Because that's what his reported demands have been.

I wouldn't go more than 4.5 or around there personally. He's a local boy so i don't think that's out of the realm of possibility. I think his "demands" were made public because he just wanted to get out of TO.... and can you blame him? |

I would not sign him et all. It does not make any sense. We are not a contender. At best we are a playoff bubble team. Cap space this year will be worth its weight in gold. If we trade KB and Higgins and maybe Lack. I say we keep the cap space play the younger kids on ELC and come trade deadline when we ship Hammer we can take a bad contract back if that means getting 2 firsts. Teams will be desperate. I would play Vrabata wit the twins and then trade at TDL for another 1st + salary dump and prospect. Teams like Pens, Chi, Nyr will always look for that edge to win it all. |

I'm sure that they communicate throughout the process, regardless of who handles what. Even if Gilman does the negotiating, he would require Benning's sign off. Just work under the assumption that it's a united front. |

I think the time is now to deal Vrbata.... he doesn't strike me as a guy that teams will fight over at the trade deadline.... but I could see a lot of teams being interested in him now since he does score a lot in the regular season to help you get in the playoffs.
I forget who else mentioned it, but I think you can get a lot more for KB at the trade deadline than you can right now. He's still regarded as a solid D-man and as a UFA there's no fear of the long-term affects on your cap.

And yet that's probably the best they'll get for him. Really don't understand the hype for a back-up on a stacked team. Symptom of a weak pool and the media with no one else to gush over for hours upon hours of air time. |
