Right, because 30 goal scorers with Stanley Cup Championship experience grow on trees.
Yes he is expensive and on the decline. But his contract is only for 2 more years, so a team on the cusp (Wash, Pitt, Isles) will be willing to take a chance on the contract in return for a proven winner with something left in the tank to get their team over the hump. Happens ALL THE TIME.

- Katana777

He wasn't a 30 goal scorer last year.

And usually, you see teams make that trade at the deadline.

Thank God you are not the GM because that team isn't going anywhere with that D corp.
- jaydogg1974

I very much disagree. Oduya/Hejda/Jackman aren't fancy names but they are very very solid D men who bring a lot of experience to a very young D. The top 4 is quite solid I think. The bottom pairing: definitely Demoulin needs to be there, Chorny played quite well in that role last playoffs and the two are used to playing with each other. I'd give them a shot...it's easy to pick up a bottom pairing D at the deadline if one is needed.

They do at the trade deadline... Not two full years at 5.9

Those are trade deadline deals you're referring to. At this time of year prices aren't as high. Last year at this time Boston and Chicago didn't get full returns on Boychuk or Leddy.
- willi

Exactly... and for the last time, I never said he is worth what is reportedly being asked, nor did I ever say at anytime what he is worth at all.
All I said was that if more than one team is interested, the price, whatever it is, will be driven up based on how badly other teams want to make the deal.

Oduya was extremely beat up during the postseason. He wouldn't be bad for a couple years. Hejda and Jackman are both scuderi 2.0. There's a reason why the Blues aren't remotely interested in resigning him even when they need defense. 3 of Rob Scuderi on a team is a recipe for disaster.

We will see. No sense in continuing this speculation. I am willing to wait and see what happens, and continue this discussion when it does.

I would guess the 2015 2nd rounder, Bennett, and Harrington/Dumoulin.
- jfkst1

Big fan of Harrington, but honestly, I can't see you guys giving us a 1st and Harrington for Sharp. It seems like a fair deal though.

Harrington from PIT or Tinordi from MTL would be fine with me.

Sure.... if he gets traded to Pittsburgh... come on back... if he goes somewhere else... most people won't care to continue.

I think Bowman would get a better package from another team and Rutherford has always been transparent to a fault and said he wanted to get younger so I really doubt he would be making a competitive offer on Sharp. And I personally hope he doesn't.

Where did I say he is worth what is being reported. Do you have trouble reading? I simply said his value increases the more teams that are interested, which shifts the leverage into our favor (not completely, but more evenly distributed).
- Katana777

A guy that is making 5.9 million for the next XXX years, one that just had a drastic drop-off in point production won't yield to the high return you think. The people that are reporting a top six forward, a top prospect and a first round pick are fools. You guys will be very disappointed in the return if you think he is worth that.

Your comment about Pittsburgh should be interested in him and shouldn't let competitors jump at the chance at landing him is foolish. He isn't the player we need. He is nothing more than an overpriced bandaid that will cost us assets. 5.9 million for Patrick Sharp is foolish for us. We need to get younger, not add a 33 year old forward on the decline.

He isn't a 30-goal scorer dude. He didn't score 20 this year.

So, we should peddle Kris Kunitz as a 30-goal scorer too ... one that has won multiple Cups for a top six winger, a first round pick and a top prospect?

We aren't on the cusp. We have a mess on our hands. Patrick Sharp at 5.9 million does not solve our problems. He creates even more. Anyone who follows hockey would know this. Obviously you don't.

Never said Pitt should be interested in him. Show me where I said that? I said if they are (based on reports that they may be).

Marketing him as a 30-goal scorer is laughable. He isn't. Nothing I said earlier is false. We don't need Patrick Sharp. He would be a lousy acquisition knowing his age, his decline, the cost it takes to get him (assets) and 5.9 million per kills us more cap wise. Your deluded mind continues to go. You really don't get this at all. You need to cut cap space and everyone knows this ... you have a declining talent like Sharp, who barely scored half of 30 this year and is due to make 5.9 million the next two?

Kris Kunitz was a 30-goal scorer two years ago ... he has won multiple Cups too boot, and he is cheaper than Sharp, so ...

Keep on taking whatever you are taking and please get some smarts in the meantime. If I asked you where Chicago was on a map, could you point your finger on it? Not sure.

Friend at work just told me he received a tweet that sent was out by Jason MaCkay that a Sutter trade is imminent. Didn't see it, so I can't confirm the tweet but that's what I was told.
