Ladd is a guy actually worth paying a premium for.
- Tojo.

Not for one year. I know people don't value Kunitz as much anymore, nor Sutter and maybe Harrington as well, but that is a pool of assets you don't trade for one year of Ladd. Bad asset management. I'm a big fan of Ladd's by the way.

I'd also sign Fransen before any of the high priced forwards other than Soderberg. If Pouliot struggles at all, I'm afraid we'd be shopping for a defenseman at the deadline, and that's expensive. The top 6 wings are just terrible value.

For one year of service? No he's not.

Sorry, meant we would have to plan to extend him.

A- Frolik. Elite defensive forward and consistent secondary scorer. Could produce more with an elite center.
B- Soderberg. Good defensively and very underrated playmaker. Versatile enough to play center or wing.
C- Fehr. Similar to Soderberg except more of a goal scorer than playmaker.

I believe he is getting $4.4M this year. He has 49+ points in 5 of the last 7 years. He had 62 points last year (led WPG) in scoring. The most points by a winger last year was 51 points on the Penguins.

It would be trying a 29 year old on the Pens top 6 for one year. If he doesn't work, we gave up what everyone else doesn't want on this team next year - Sutter and Kunitz.

It also frees up more cap room to sign a Soderberg +.

Hmm, Frolik kills penalties too. Ok, I won't hate signing him, though I still wouldn't do it for the cap reasons I listed earlier. Still screams Dupuis 2.0 Soderberg is still my #1 though.

Buying out Richards would hit the Kings' cap $1.467 million per season over 10 years.
- jfkst1

Sorry, I wasn't aware it was that long. Too bad for LA. Can't trade him, can't buy him out - glad the Pens don't have anyone like that.

Fair enough. I'm admittedly partial to defensive forwards so I very much dislike many of these potential trade and UFA targets. I still think a major trade for a big name is going to be disastrous to the Penguins.

Frolik - Crosby - Hornqvist would be a nice line to throw out against opponents top lines. I like the player too, but he doesn't really fill that need to get Malkin a goal scorer. But they could make worse moves.

Frolik is a RW. Ladd is WPGs LW. Ladd will be $4.4M but the Pens would also need to trade assets. Ladd also led WPG forwards in PK time. Frolik could be up to $5M cost being a free agent.

I like both players. If WPG would trade what I suggested, I like Ladd better for the value.

Lastly, Ladd was second of all players including defensemen on WPG in hits. He had 212 hits. (FYI, Kunitz had 211 - another reason WPG could use Kunitz).

The Pens usually get a broken down Murray or Morrow and pay dearly for it. When you deal away the future and only get 4 draft picks on Draft Day you better be good at drafting. We haven't been in a long time. Our "home grown" players were all top five picks. Name 1 second round pick.
- Badonkadonk

Harrington, Blueger, Jarry that's right off the top of my head. Phil Samuelson is another one. Dumoulin was a 2nd but a canes 2nd

Sign me up for Ladd and to a lesser extent, Frolik.

Ladd, Frolik and Soderberg Would be very Nice additions if we could unload Kunitz and Sutter on the Ladd deal.

Ladd-Crosby-Hörnqvist
Perron-Malkin-Frolik
Dupuis-Soderberg-Bennett
Winnik-Sundqvist-Downie.

Can't see getting any better than that. I'm not sure if this lineup is possible due to cap reasons lol

AC is busted in my house and I can't sleep. That forward lineup would have the potential to be excellent. Frolik can play all 3 F positions btw.

Yep, dumb to trade a non factor bust who probably has little future here for someone that can do something and possesses a good work ethic too boot. Remember, you were giving me the lecture about having to take chances. You aren't giving up a high pick or a good prospect. You aren't giving up anything of consequence here. This is better than Semin, or Sharp. If Erikson busts, he is gone in a year and its not like the Penguins lost anything of note.

I know Boston would want to shed $$$, but I find it hard to believe they would want Bennett.

- Oneonta Penguin

Bennett is still very young and has potential, and RFA still, and is $3mil cheaper...why deal that for a guy you can get in the off season...better off putting that money elsewhere.

Latest from Vegas:

Frolik - 4/1
Semin - 9/1
Skinner - 18/1
Eberle - 12/1
Beleskey - 20/1
Sharp - 3/1
Drouin - 18/1
Rychel - 15/1
Yak - 30/1
Okposo - 50/1
Other 2/1

More to come.

I'll be back before bedtime with an update. Keep an eye on the Oilers though.

My rumour chart will break 'other' up shortly as there has been a plunge.

More to come oh said that already.

You can't plan on that especially when we have 48% of our cap tied up in five players alread. Ladd has played good hockey and captained a team for the past few seasons and is getting up there in age. He screems one last pay day. What happens if the Pens can't give him the financial situation he wants? The risk that Ladd won't resign is too great to give up all those assets.

That would be hilarious if someone took Sutter straight up for a decent top 6 winger.

Sutter for Sbisa or Vbata (who is better?), straight or should we get Sven B with that?

I don't want anything to do with Sbisa.
Vrbata is the one that probably gets speculated about the most. It would make sense as Vancouver could use Sutter and needs to drop cap. I'd personally rather see if Sutter couldn't get Kassian. Kassian is young and will serve as a movement towards youth whereas Vrbata has only one year left. Of course, Vrbata is much more accomplished than Kassian too.

I'd prefer kassian as well. Cheaper and younger but you're correct not nearly as polished.

If they trade Sutter effectively straight up with limited or no assets attached, I think it will be for another player on a one year deal (Lucic, Eriksson, Vrbata, Parenteau, etc.). Someone of higher quality like Backes or Ladd would require a package and I'd rather avoid that if possible. I'd still prefer to get young assets back from Sutter, but I wouldn't view a one for one as a major loss. Especially since I hate Sutter. The last thing I want the team to do is put all the chips on the table for one of the expensive assets (Kessel, Skinner, Oshie, etc.). That will kill the Penguins in a couple years.

I don't know why but Kunitz looks like a Jet type. I'd be pretty happy with a Bennett/Kunitz for Wheeler trade.
- Barnaby36

why would the jets do that?
