I think the risk on Semin is worth it, that's my perspective. Any other player who can slot in as a top 6 will cost way too much for PIT. Semin at 3.5/yr (and a 2nd/3rd rnd pick) for Sutter seems very reasonable to me.
I don't quite care how WASH made their decisions. I'm looking to the future. PIT needs guys who can play top 6...nobody argues Semin's skill...dude is slick and a top talent. Injuries/lack of desire to play D/sometimes lazy are the concern...but why not take the risk, is my question... - mventres
You should care why Washington made their decision to essentially give up on a 70+ point scorer at the time. They knew the dangers and we saw them move onto Carolina.
He might have sick talent, but his talent never translates into what it should because he is a lazy ass and his work ethic sucks. We can't afford a risk of this nature. |

Well then, Mr all knowing, what does a 7M player who doesn't produce get you in trade value? Can't wait to hear this.... - cap1681
A $7m player at half price for 3 years + a 2nd round pick gets you more than an overpaid 3rd line center. |

I'm not sure if Toronto is interested in trading JVR but it sounds like they are starting over, if I was calling Toronto I'd ask about him before kessel. - Genev21
They'd want Pouliot. We need to stop looking at the established players, especially if they are young. It would drain PIT too much to acquire. You have to look at under-the-radar guys or those who carry risk and can hence be had relatively cheaply. |

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I think it's worth the risk. |

good question. He seems to be doing just fine without the great Alexander Semin.

Not sure if a 20G 3rd line C at 3.5/yr is overpaid. Soderberg, who is a few years older, produced about the same and will get between 4-5 on a 4-5yr deal... |

Who cares? Different players/team/etc...I don't care that he's Russian either...if he was from Australia I'd make the same argument. |

Then why give up on sutter so quickly like 90% of penguins fans are set to do. He is included in every "trade proposal". |

I think Stewart is a very good option. Hope gmjr doesn't throw the farm away in a trade when a viable option is out there via fa. |

He's the only player the PENS have with value aside from the young guys and core...either stay status quo and keep him, or deal him to try and improve... |

The options are limited. Way better then going after semin or going for broke with Kessel.

As I said, this is really the only play PIT has without depleting prospects or trading the core. It's just a reality...deal with it. |

I think no matter what, if you move Sutter, next year's 3C will be paid more and score fewer goals. |

Spaling is more than $1mil less, and would probably produce in that range...give Sundquist time on 4th line C and hopefully he's ready for 3rd line C the year after when Spaling's contract is up... |

This isn't being an bumhole. It's reality. It's fact. Stewart, like Semin is a lazy asses. Stewart has zero work ethic and this is why multiple teams have kicked him to the curb. I would rather have a guy with a good work ethic, not one that has the work ethic of Semin, if not worse. If you can't see that, then ...
People have female doged up a storm many times about Sutter's effort and they want Semin and or Stewart? LOL. |

Name me a guy who can be had (i.e., the team who has him is looking to deal him or he's a FA) at a reasonable cap hit that would has potential to be on the top 6 without trading top prospects/picks/core players? |

So replace Sutter with whipping boy #2 on the Pens fan club?
I agree Sund will be a 4C this year. |

I would rather the Penguins pursue players in unrestricted free agency than over pay in trades. |

My list is small CBJ:
CLB: Jenner/Atkinson/Rychel, but they will want Harrington/Demoulin in a return
VAN: Kassian
Teams who may have interest, but I don't see a trade match (for Sutter): MTL, MIN |
