Question! I want your opinions of this. Michael Del Zotto offer sheet? I wanted the Sharks to sign him as a low risk/high reward signing last offseason. It didn't happen and he went to Flyers. Do you offer him 3-3.5 million/per year, and give a 2nd rounder as compensation for him? He would be an offensive guy to run out there with Braun. A puck mover and someone who could quarterback the second PP unit.

3 years 10-11 million? Thoughts?

- IDtheJC

No....... b/c that would mean he'd take one of Mirco or Dillon's spot i'd rather stick with them than give up a 2nd for Del Zotto........rather use that 2nd in a package for a guy like Spurgeon who's a helluva alot better.

If that is the price they are setting....rofl
Rags fans and Sather will be in Panic mode come February when they realize the teams that needed a goalie went with reasonable options and now they are soon to lose Talbot for nothing to UFA.

There are too many available options to try to strong arm a good deal. they have no leverage. The market is full of options.

If MacDonalds drives the price of a bigmac to $10 a burger, but Burger King still sells whoppers for $3, people will just go get a whopper and MacDonalds will soon reduce the price again

- j0e Th0rnton

Yeah they could be over playing there hand with Talbot huh? There were reports that they turned down two 2nd rd picks for him.

Wasn't he the kid who had terrible off ice problems? Porn stars and booze? I think he is the guy who got called out on Twitter by some porn stars when he was on the Rangers...

I could be wrong but I think I remember hearing nothing but bad things about his play in his own zone and his off ice antics.

Yes, however, with Del Zotto you don't have to give up Mirco, Hertl, etc to get him. It's a mid level contract, and nothing going the other way but a second. We still have CO's second for next year too. So we wouldn't be bereft of a second rounder next year.

That's okay, they have the best goalie available. I'd drive the price up too. Sure there are a lot of goalies out there, but they aren't like Talbot...why do you think the Sharks, and us, are so interested in him? Ramo, Neuvirth, Anderson, Lehner, etc....do they really stack up to Talbot's small, but impressive, sample?

No, No and No.

He did okay with the flyers because Berube literally let them play under almost no system(And the team was a trainwreck)

Under a system coach like Deboer, he is in the doghouse constantly.

Trust me, I watch a lot of flyer games because the fellows at Hockeyforums.net are usually in chat during games and we watch and chat about multiple games together on game night. And the place is 75% flyer fans

- j0e Th0rnton

Why do you think that is? He did have some success, albeit in consistent and intermittent, with the Rangers. They're a pretty structured team. I think last year was an opportunity for him to rebuild his career and value. He did that.

So i seen some of the Ranger fans eying Goldobin & our #39 pick in a trade for Talbot........ i politely said no thanks.
- SJSharks39

I would do Goldy and a 2016 2nd for him, but only if we talk to his agent about an extension before the trade. Just like with Burns with the trade and sign.

Late first and early second seems like a lot for Talbot.

Agreed. if we are using Goldy as a trade chip, add it for Spurgeon. Top 4 D who can move the puck are a hell of a lot harder to get than a goalie these days.

Edit: and I am one of the bigger "Get Talbot" guys here. But not if the price is unreasonable given the market

Del Zotto's better years in NY were under Tortorella, who is far more into the simplistic system than Vigneault, who plays a more structured defense.

When Vigneault took over, Del Zotto plummeted. Straight to a trade to Nashville, where under Trotz strict system, he plummeted further.

Berube's system was impossible to figure out because I am not sure he had one. Neither were the flyer fans I hang in live game chat with lol.

But Del Zotto is better not being overcoached.

Deboer plays a very nitty gritty complicated structured system. Del Zotto would be in the doghouse quick.

Ill do some coles notes of the delusional Sens fan here

-Stone would get more than Couture, so saying that a starting point would be stone +, is simply impossible.
-Besides, Michalek had better numbers than Couture when he was with San Jose, and only a few years ago. Michalek has reached the 35 goals once, and had many 30 goal seasons, and multiple 60 point season, including one which he had 66 points, an amount Couture has never reached.
-So really, Michalek alone should get you more than Couture considering he's been better, he's cheaper, and he would have amazing points getting passes from Joe Thornton. Ottawa is actually giving up much more than San José is in this trade

His trade recommendation was pretty much 3 cap dumps and Anderson+ picks for Couture

Just because we have the cap space doesn't mean we have to use it. We can hold off and save that money to resign our own players like Hertl too.

From Kurz:
“We’ve got to have a good draft; we’ve got to make good decisions on utilizing those assets and using the cap space that we have,” Wilson said.

Wilson also confirmed that Sharks owner Hasso Plattner has permitted him to spend to the limit, after the team operated well below the salary cap in 2014-15 in what was labeled as a transitional season.

“Our owner is fully committed. That’s not an issue at all,” Wilson said.

Another transitional season? Lol just ribbin ya. I for one hope we smash last years spending number. The Hawks have been maxed after two cup wins so maybe we should too.

No, the season of transition is over. The new staff means a whole new team. New Look, etc. Plus, it's a fresh start for all the players with the new staff. We'll see if we get the same results or not, but our team this last season was far better and far more talented than where they finished in the standings. All of our complaining about hannan, irwin, nemo, etc....all of that aside they should have finished better than they did. Even if we come back with the same team I think it's a playoff team regardless. We really weren't that far out, and we got our asses kicked by all the worst teams in the league. If we just win half those games we're pretty close to a playoff spot.
