I doubt it... This has been going on for what seems like a month.
Nobody has taken the "high road" yet.

The Galchenyuk situation could be fun one to watch unfold over the next few weeks.

I think both teams would want the players extended. It wouldn't happen until July.

High roads make this place boring, i want to see some FIREWORKS.

Find a way to trade for o'reilly without giving up zadorov, find a short termish vet top 4 dman and watch reinhart carry this team to the playoffs.

Id rather keep the course of being so so for the next few years and hit the playoffs strong in two years

Soooo, they fired the head scouts 5 days before the draft? Interesting...

They'll probably have a better draft with MacTavish and Chiarelli making all the picks.

That's just it though. The first pick is easy. It's the rest they need to hit on. How are they gonna do that now that they fired everyone?

Honestly, after 4 1st overall picks (one of them potentially being the GOAT) i'm not sure it really matters. They'll probably be trading at least 1 of their other picks and going hard in free agency. The core is pretty much set though.

The whole point of hitting on your later picks is so that you avoid the unlikely scenario of needing to draft #1 so many times, but since they've already crossed that bridge...

I think that hits gooses point. They wouldn't be in this situation if they had. Still they need to hit on those picks. You cant have 1 player hit the NHl as a high productiveplayer

I am not opposed to a slow steady improvement if that is what it takes. I still want to see a top 4 dman be signed, as well as a trade for a top 6 player if they cant get back inside the top 10-12 at the draft

Im not worried about goalie. If we can get decent goaltending out of what, 62 different goalies over the last 2 seasons, the inevitable improvement of the team makes this position borderline irrelevant

And that's my point, it's moot now. The whole schtick behind needing to hit on those later picks is because the alternative would require you to the improbable and draft 1st overall several times over several years.

They've got an unbelievable top 6, 2 really good defensemen and finally for the first time in like a decade, a respectable management team and coaching staff. The rest can be filled out via trades and free agency.

Edmonton has basically become the Detroit Lions of the NHL, except that McDavid is a better prospect than Matthew Stafford ever was. Eventually, the greatest video game team of all time became pretty good.

GR just said Reinhart + 21 for O'Reilly or Bogo, 21, + for O'Reilly. I don't see how that helps us short or long term. Pretty lateral move on the Reinhart side long run without the need to pay him 7 figures, and trading that many decent assets for a position of strength just doesn't make sense.
