The most realistic way I thought Buffalo could actually attempt to ice a playoff team for next season. Granted, the goaltending is the weakest position on the team, but you have a shade over $3M to spend on a better goaltender or trade for one if needed.

Sharp's play has gone so down hill that I'd find it hard to believe he's even worth a 3rd rounder. I'd love to see his numbers without Keith, Toews, Kane and Hossa passing him the biscuit. There is a reason why the Hawks want to rid themselves of him.

Also vast overpayment for a guy with 55 points this season. He's good defensively but do we really want to invest $7 million a year in him. He's going to cost that much to resign. With Eichel, Ristolainen, Zadorov, Reinhart etc etc vying for big raises in the future that trade won't just cost us money. It will also cost us top flight players. Sabres also have their own O'Rielly in Girgensons. Also Gorges isn't going to waive his NTC twice within a year.

Williams is the type of guy we go after if we are guaranteed a playoff spot. Not if we are on the outside looking in. So that's not the way to go. We need a good RW with some experience that can also grow with the team not call it quits in a year or two. Okposo or Oshie would be great RW for us.

Beauchemin would be a good signing.

I'd only sign Oduya if Weber or Gorges leave otherwise he's just taking up another roster spot.

What's all this "for one game" nonsense?
U don't trade for someone for "ONE" game, u get them for the season, and hopefully longer

Oosthuizen wins the Open tomorrow unless Spieth goes under par

What a gutsy performance by Jason Day.

We might see a Monday playoff but I have Spieth on my fantasy team so I have to pull for him. I think DJ wins it though.

Not exactly what I'm researching. It's irrelevant at this point to me. More likely than not, it's not credible.

"TORONTO SUN: Steve Simmons claims he’s hearing Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan “doesn’t love Phil Kessel” and neither does new Leafs coach Mike Babcock. They want Kessel traded but won’t just give him away. Both, however, “don’t dislike” Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf…Simmons also suggests if he were an NHL GM, he’s pitch an offer sheet to St. Louis Blues star Vladimir Tarasenko, as the Blues “aren’t exactly known for paying big bucks.”"

Steve Simmons is a (frank)ing chump and a moron.

If he thinks for one second that the Blues won't pony up for Tarasenko he's out of his (frank)ing mind. The ONLY chance they let him go is for 4 first round picks from a bad franchise. Toronto has way too much cap to clear before they could eve sign him. AND they're rebuilding, they'd be wasting about 3-4 years of his contract. It just doesn't make sense. If I were Murray, and Tarasenko's would become an RFA in 2 years, I'd pay the man immediately and see if the Blues pony up. But we have at least 2 more lottery tickets coming up so, today, I'm not so sure I'd do 4 1sts.

if you think you have 2 more lottery's coming up, then IMO your not in a position to offer sheet Tarasenko

Absolutely Homie.

With the draft being in Buffalo next year, I would say next offseason is the time to offer sheet a top quality player, as after next year, they expect to have turned a corner with results on the ice.

If you offer sheet (and get) Tarasenko you're in the playoffs next year. My thinking is if this happened they would go out and get a veteran winger for the short term.

Of course, this won't happen as the Blues will match anything given to him.

Okposo is intriguing but I think he might be a classic case of a guy that is really a second-line winger that is going to get first-line money.

The reason they are trading Sharp is because they need to clear cap space, they and other GM's are paranoid the cap will actually be $69M and not $71M, and they have a younger, better player they will sign to take his place in Saad.

There is nothing wrong with getting Sharp for a 2nd and JT Compher if the goal is to try and get the team to the playoffs in 2015-2016.

Having Girgensons should never stop the team from trying to get another player of his ability who may be better overall.

You could be right about Gorges not waving, but it is not a vast overpayment when the only roster players going Colorado's way are Grigorenko and Gorges. You need to add picks to be able to make that deal work, and the 31st pick this year, a 2nd next year, and a 2017 1st contingent on O'Reilly resigning (you could lottery protect the pick as well) is fair for both sides. I would guess Colorado fans would tell you no thanks and that it wouldn't be enough.

On your point about him making $7M per down the road when the young guys need a contract, at that time Moulson and Gionta will both be gone as will their total $9M in salary, and they will be replaced by the Reinhart, Baptiste, Carrier, Fasching, & Bailey types.

I think Williams would come if he saw the two trades I mentioned plus the signings of both Beauchemin and Oduya. No thanks to Okposo coming off that eye injury and Oshie who appears to be a one trick pony.

I signed Oduya and Beauchemin due to trading away Gorges. I think the defense below would be strong for Buffalo and it's a mix of LH and RH D men.

There is no way we should be giving up valuable assets for a short-term gain. Compher should never go in this kind of trade.

With Eichel, Reinhart, Girgensons, and Larsson, how is Compher anything more than an ancillary piece to the team's future at this point?

Also, I didn't say Buffalo should. I made that roster in an if the team was going to try for a playoff spot this season scenario.

Perhaps another trade with the Kings would be in order if he were to still be available there?

I agree on trying to get him. Perfect RW for the team.

He's potentially a pretty good bottom 6 player (Compher)

I'd like to keep him until he's at least given a shot in Rochester or Buffalo

IMO if Zacha falls past 9 or 10, or either Meier or Konecny fall past 12 or 13, I think we should be trying to move up

There is no way we should be trying to slot people like that right now. For all we know he could be better than Larsson. The only way I move any of the kids is if it gets us a top-6 young winger.
